As the Year of St. Joseph progresses, there is need to know who St. Joseph is beyond him being the spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary and foster-father of our Lord Jesus Christ. He is the Patron Saint of the universal Church. Who is St. Joseph? Why is St. Joseph important? BETTY AMUKPO puts these questions to some children.

St. Joseph, flourished during the 1st century CE, but Pope Pius XII ordered the feast of Saint Joseph the Worker in 1955. St. Joseph is the husband of Holy Mary and the earthly father of Jesus Christ. He is important because he is the patron of the universal church in Roman and Catholic worldwide.

• Eyinade Gideon Anuoluwapo

St. Joseph is Mother Mary spouse, he is also the father of Jesus Christ. He is important to us because he is Jesus Christ’s earthly father, he humbled himself and has the fear of God and he is obedient to God. He is loving and caring and he teaches us that a family that prays together stays together.

St. Joseph is the foster father of Jesus Christ who is also the saviour of the world. He was a carpenter and he is also our Patron Saint. St. Joseph is important to us because when Angel Gabriel appeared to him and told him to accept the Child Jesus and take Mary back to be his wife, he did not reject her nor the baby but he accepted and did as the Angel said. He is the father of our Lord Jesus Christ who is the saviour of the world. He is our Patron Saint and he doesn’t hesitate in helping us when in need and he’s also our helper.

• Prisca Etu

St. Joseph is a carpenter whom the angel used and accomplished the missions of Mother Mary, to be her spouse, along the line he found out that Mary was pregnant and the Holy Spirit appeared to him, to stay with her until the baby Jesus, was born. Why is he important to us today? To me, he is important to us because without him guarding Mother Mary, the Herod of that time could have killed the Child Jesus but the Holy Spirit used the angel through Joseph to guard Jesus. So, the world needs to remember him for the roles he played by protecting our Mother Mary and the saviour of the whole universe, as we Honour our Mother Mary too.

• Cyrinasophia Egbo

Why he is important to us today? To me, he is important to us because without him guarding Mother Mary, the Herod of that time could have killed the Child Jesus but, the Holy Spirit used the angel through Joseph to guard Jesus.
