Grandparents are huge and extraordinary resources to families. They are family historians and trusted advisors. Grandparents share stories that teach important lessons. Future generations gain knowledge, confidence, determination, and pride as they reflect upon the lives and legacies of their grandparents. Grandfathers and grandmothers can also be described as watchdogs, identifying weaknesses, in parents, children and impending dangers. As the world marks the 3rd edition of Grandparents Day, the young Catholic Heraldians share their love for their grandparents. BETTY AMUKPO puts forward their goodwill messages.
‘When I was much younger, my grandparents took on the role of caretakers, stress relievers’
I love my grandparents and elderly ones because generally, grandparents love and care for their grandchildren. In fact, they are willing to do anything for their grandchildren. When I was much younger, my grandparents took on the role of caretakers, playmates, stress relievers, storytellers, and instillers of moral values. If we love and spend time with our grandparents and elderly ones, we hear family stories, and get a sense of family history and lineage that kids without grandparents often miss out on. Let’s love them because we are the reward of our grandparents (Proverbs 17:6).

‘I love my grandparents because of the unconditional love they have for me’
I love my grandparents and the elderly because of the unconditional love they all have for me. Honouring them is the part of love God wants to show them; wanting me to grow in the light of the Lord and be an obedient child is what God expects from us. The Bible states in the book of Exodus 20:12: “Honour your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.”

‘My grandmother calls me twice weekly to pray for me’
My grandparents are very special to me because they always tell me stories anytime I visit them. They always smile even though I have not seen them for the past years. They are always in my heart. If I could give a gold crown to my wonderful grandparents, I would do so, they have invested so much in my life. My grandmother always calls me twice in a week to pray for me and for my siblings. I pray that gracious father will continue to bless my grandparents and grant them more years on earth. Psalm 92:14 says, grandparents will still bear fruits in old age, they will stay fresh and green. Grandparents are a blessing to us whether financial blessing or an investment of Godly character, the inheritance that grandparents leave behind is of utmost importance. A grandparents’ love is strong and deep, filled with memories to treasure and keep.

‘Presence of my grandparents is a delightful blend of laughter, caring deeds, love’
I love my grandparents because their presence is a delightful blend of laughter, caring deeds, wonderful stories and love. Grand parents are given to us to bestow their wisdom on us. Explaining Proverbs 17:6, my grandma told me, “children’s children are crowns to the aged and parents are the pride of their children”.

My grandmother is a teacher, disciplinarian; my grandfather, a director’
My grandparents are parents of Father and mother. Their names are Mr. and Mrs. Peter and Maria Umeorah. I have been living with them since I was one-year-old. I love them so much and I am fond of them. My grandmother is a teacher and a disciplinarian too. My grandfather is a director. They are the ones that nursed me from a baby to this stage. They are my first teachers. They trained me physically, morally and spiritually. I am proud of them; they have formed my life positively. They are like my biological parents. They have taught me how to live in peace with people and love them, how to do little house chores and they have equally taught me how to pray and remain in constant relationship with God. I thank God for such a perfect gift of my grandparents. May God bless and keep them for me. Amen.
Mr. and Mrs. Samuel and Theresa Anyasor are my paternal grandparents though my grandfather is late. I do not live with them but I visit them during Christmas any time we go to the village. My grandmother is a petty trader and a farmer. She always takes care of me and my siblings any time we go to the village. She’s the best grandmother I have ever had who makes time to call us on phone. She trained me physically and spiritually. I am proud of her being my grand mum. She pampers us every time we go to the village. I thank God for such a beautiful and good grandparent who dedicated their life to God. May God bless and keep my grandparents and the elderly, may they be filled with the Holy spirit and the love of God. May they live long to prosper and see the fruit of their labour in Jesus name. Amen Enjoy your day grannies.

‘They have lots of experiences concerning the things of the world’
I love my grandparents and the elderly because they know culture and history. They have a lot of experiences concerning the things of the world. Grandparents often referred to as “Elders”, “Forefathers”, or “Ancestors” in the Bible are crucial to God’s plan of salvation for the whole world.
