As Christians, Christmas signifies the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ and afford us an opportunity to celebrate it annually. It is a special season of sharing joy and happiness. We can make Christmas extra special for ourselves. Some children relate to BETTY AMUKPO respectively, on what makes Christmas special to them. Excerpts:
‘It’s a day that gladdens our hearts’
What makes Christmas special is the joy attributed to the day among Christians. It’s a day that gladdens our hearts and brings about togetherness. It is also confirmed by the book of Ecclesiastes 9:7, which states “Go, eat your food with gladness, and drink your wine with a joyful heart, for God has already approved what you do”.

‘Showing love to people regardless of who they are’
Christmas is a day set aside by Christians all over the world, to celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ, His coming into the world. It is the climax of advent. It is celebrated on the 25th of December every year. It is a coming of our saviour who brought reconciliation between God and man. Christmas is so special to me because, it is a season of joy and happiness. The weather naturally indicates: flowers are blooming up, plants spring up and also in the Church there are lots of decoration, those are signs of joy and happiness. Show love to people regardless of who they are. Sharing Christmas gifts, I will equally buy good things for myself. I will decorate my house and beautify it because it is Christmas. I will go to festival mall and Kas and kids to enjoy myself. I will eat fried rice and chicken, drinks and enjoy good Christmas songs. I will attend the midnight Mass and join the congregation to shout ‘Glory to God in the Highest’, blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord hosanna in the highest, immediately it is 12a.m.

‘It represents birth of Christ’
Christmas is special to me because it represents the birth of Jesus Christ, the Saviour of the world. It is a time to celebrate the love, hope, and joy that He brings. “For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” – Isaiah 9:6

It is a time to cheer and enjoy your time with family and friends as another year draws to a close, and the whole world celebrates the birth of Christ. Christmas is an annual festival celebrated around the world, commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ. The word “Christmas” comes from the old English word “Cristes maesse ” or the mass of Christ. ‘Showcase our new clothes’
Christmas is celebrated to remember the birth of Jesus Christ, who Christians believe is the son of God. It is indeed a special time to be thankful and grateful to God for the gift of life. Proverbs 17:22 states: “A joyful heart is good medicine but a broken spirit dries up the bones.” God has made us in such a way that joy and humour are meant to be parts of our lives. Christmas is also a time to cheer and enjoy with families and friends and also showcase our new clothes and shoes.

‘Time for exchange of gifts’
For most people, Christmas is a time to come together, spend time with each other, strengthen family bonds, and connect with, and appreciate the important people in our lives. Every family has its own ways of doing this, and for many, it may look a little bit different this year than most. Matthew 2:10-12. When they (the wise men) saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy. And going into the house, they saw the Child with Mary His mother, and they fell down and worshiped Him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered Him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh. At Christmas, people exchange gifts based on the Christian tradition associated with Saint Nicholas, and the gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh which were given to the baby Jesus by the Magi.

‘Santa Claus presents gifts to children in red suit’
Christmas is the day we celebrate the coming of God as a baby. So, what makes Christmas so special to me? Exactly these moments: Inviting a whole bunch of close friends to join the family to celebrate. To get together no matter if we are relatives or friends and be happy and joyful together (1 Peter 4:9). Because, after all, this is what makes the season so special: everyone coming together to spend time together in love and unity. Christmas is the time of the year when Santa Claus delivers gifts to children in his red suit. I love Christmas!

‘The hope and joy that Christ brings to the world’
To me, what makes Christmas special is the love and joy that it brings to people all around the world. It’s a time when people come together to celebrate the birth of Jesus, and to reflect on the true meaning of the season. One Bible verse that really captures the essence of Christmas for me is Luke 2:10-11, which says, “But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Saviour has been born to you; He is the Messiah, the Lord. This verse really speaks to me because it reminds me that Christmas is about more than just presents and decorations. It’s about celebrating the birth of Jesus and the hope and joy that He brings to the world. This Christmas, I hope to remember the true meaning of the holiday and to spread love and joy to those around me. I’ll also try to remember to give thanks for all the blessings in my life, including the gift of Jesus.
