On Friday, October 1, 2021, Nigeria marked its 61st Independence anniversary. While some claim that there is so much to celebrate, others are of the contrary view. But the majority of Catholic kids are on the divide of celebrating the beautiful qualities of their country and the citizenry. BETTY AMUKPO presents their views on what they like about Nigeria and Nigerians.

‘Despite challenges in Education, citizens believe that one day, it shall be good’

What I like about my country at 61:

1: Despite challenges in Education, Citizens believe that one day, it shall be good.

2: Despite challenges in Economics in the country, citizens work so hard to take care of their various families.

3: Democracy in the country doesn’t fulfill what citizens are expected but they still believe in the democratic system of government.

My prayer for my Country:

Oh lord my God, I thank you for keeping us alive. I pray oh Lord, change the mentality of our leaders so that they should know that you sent them to represent you in the leadership position in the country through Christ our Lord Amen!!!

• Umennadi Francis Chibunna

‘God’s love for our Country is never in doubt despite all the bad things I see on television’

In the book of Jeremiah 29:7, it is written: “Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the City to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper”.

What I like about Nigeria at 61 are:

God’s love for our country is never in doubt despite all the bad things I see on television, the Country still remains one with love amongst her people. The way I read and see Nigerians thriving all over the world means there is good in the country.

Nigeria at 61, I pray God heals our land of every evil deeds and give us a President that will make the country better and make the citizens happier and peaceful, and stop the bloodshed of the innocent in Jesus Christ name. Amen.

• Gideon Eyinade

‘What I like most about us is that we, the citizens can manage any situation we find ourselves’

What I like about my country Nigeria at 61 is that, Nigerians are hardworking, they are intelligent and very wise; what I like most about us is that we, the citizens can manage any situation we find ourselves in, we try to make sure the country is in good state of health in spite of the challenges and insecurities everywhere. And today I pray that God in his infinite mercy will bless Nigeria abundantly, and help to bring up good and incorruptible leaders in Nigeria. May Almighty God continually grant our leaders the wisdom, knowledge and understanding to rule the Country well and may He also grant Nigeria good health and peace as well as other countries, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

• Etu – Prisca.

‘I like the fact that despite our diversity in Nigeria we are still united’

I like the fact that despite our diversity in Nigeria we are still united. That with all the problems Nigeria as a country, is going through, we can still find joy in living here every day. I also like it that Nigerians are united and loving. We are a kind people and have faith in God. And enjoy helping each other no matter the tribe or language. I also like it that Nigeria has many different languages, culture and food. My wish for Nigeria is for us to live in peace and grow to be the best Country in the whole world.

• Samuel Odogwu

‘Nigeria my country is blessed with so many mineral resources’

Though things turned out differently for Nigeria few years back because of our greedy politicians, but in all things I give God all the glory. As the richest in Africa , we hope to be better at 61. I pray in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit .Amen I present our country before you o Lord, show us mercy, you know our anxieties and sufferings, come to our aid and forgive us all our sins, bring peace again, and restore our dear country, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
