Christmas is almost here again and people are busy around the world with various preparations to celebrate Christmas in their respective unique ways. Christmas is a time to celebrate. Foremost is the celebration of the birth of Jesus. Christmas precisely means the birth of our Lord and saviour, Jesus Christ. But Christmas means a lot of different things to a lot of people. What does Christmas mean to you? Here’s what some people have to say. BARBARA NEGBEJIE reports.
‘A period of touching lives, reconciliation and reflection’
Christmas is a period that Christians remember the birth of Jesus Christ. It is a special period to me because the joy that radiates during this season is just uncontrollable. I see it as a period of touching lives. It is also a period of special reconciliation and reflection. Although in the world today, Christmas has been commercialized, this is wrong. When we draw ourselves together as friends we reunite as one body. It is my pleasure to see people acting in the appropriate definition of Christmas in accordance to the coming of the Lord. I am always very happy during this season because Jesus Christ is to be rekindled in my life. So I urge everyone to join me in this special Christmas Joy.
‘A season when we share the love of Christ’
Christmas is said to date back to two thousand years ago and it is about the birth of Christ Jesus through a Virgin Mary who was engaged to Joseph. Since that time due to what Christ came to do for humanity Christmas has being practiced every year reminding us the love of God to humanity. Christmas is a season when we share the love of Christ with one another. So based on these facts Christmas to me is a reminder of how much God loves me, it also reminds me of the reason why I am created so it is a time to share the gifts I received from God which includes my time, talent and treasure. It also a time for me to have a retreat to know how well I have lived the life given to me by God.
Christmas own weather, decorations, carols, celebrations, shopping, gifts’
Oh what a wonderful season of love Christmas is! The excitement it brings from the depth of my soul. A feeling that grew with me from childhood. The new air, change in Season. Christmas has its’ own weather. Decorations, carols, celebrations, shopping, gifts received, meeting and making new friends from outings. This is what Christmas means to me.
‘New and better beginning’
For me, Christmas is symbolically a new and better beginning. As we commemorate the birth of the Lord with all the attributed symbolisms, I see it as a time of deep retrospect that ushers in the New Year for me. While reminiscing the birth of the Lord who came without any form of comeliness, I see in it, the vanity of life and the need to freely give too.
