Wednesday was Ash Wednesday, which marks the beginning of Lent for Christians. During Lent, millions of Christians all over the world decide to give something up that they love – perhaps watching movies, special delicacies, favourite drinks, chocolate, sweets or even using social media. Others might decide to take up something, like helping the poor, visiting the sick or making an extra effort to be nicer to people. What are you giving up for Lent? BETTY AMUKPO asks.

‘Stop being bitter and angry and mad at others’

The Bible says “Stop being bitter and angry and mad at others”.For this Lenten period, I will want to give up the habit of being bitter and angry at someone because I came to realize that the Lenten season is a period of Love and Love is what Jesus Christ preached .So, I want to give up the habit of bitterness and fill my heart with Love during and after the Lenten season.

‘No Lying, abusing, stealing, gluttony and gossiping’

Lent is the season to observe the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. As sinners we have the ability to be holy only if we allow Christ into our lives. Therefore during this Lent season I would give up the following which are lying, abusing, stealing, gluttony and gossiping.

‘Stop lying, stealing and abusing’

Lent is a 40 days period of spiritual preparation leading up to Easter in which we as Christians reflect on Christ passion. In this period of Lent I want to stop lying, stealing and abusing.

‘Abstain from meat, increase my faith and share whatever I have no matter how little’

As we all know, Lenten season consists of three forms, “ PRAYER, FASTING and ALMS GIVING”, and it also Involves abstinence. What does abstinence mean? Abstinence simply means staying off some certain things. Lenten period officially begins on “Ash Wednesday”. During this season, I will abstain from sins such as lying, disobedience, arrogance, playfulness. To turn a new leaf, to be obedient, respectful, and attentive, be truthful all ways, abstain from meat, increase my faith and share whatever I have no matter how little because “sharing is caring”. I hope to do all these things, so help me God. Amen.

‘Bad behaviour’

The scripture says every sinner comes short of the glory of our Lord. For the Lenten season and after the Lenten season, I want to give up any bad behaviour that will take me far away from God. Lenten period is a time of purification, habits such as lying, greed, not reading nor focusing on the word of God, I want to give them up so as to cleanse from all sin.

‘Giving my snack to my classmate that don’t have; give up on cartoon’

I am giving up all the bad habits like telling lies, fighting, gossip and I will be giving my snack to my classmate that don’t have and I will give up on cartoon for the period of Lenten season. And I pray for my parent that God should grand them their hearts desires.
