Technical Director of Nigeria Weightlifting Federation, Christopher Nwadieh says the focus of the federation has shifted to the Scotland 2026 Commonwealth Games after the five star showing in Mauritius. Nwadieh who spoke to Arise TV moments after they received a rousing reception home said Team Nigeria would now begin the build up ahead of the Commonwealth Games rather than bask in the euphoria of what was achieved at the African Senior Championships in Moka, Mauritius.

In his words…”For us attention shifts to the next outing… we now begin the build up ahead of the Commonwealth Games… Our performance in Mauritius is very encouraging.” Nwadieh was full of praise for the DG National Sports Commission (NSC) Hon Bukola Olopade saying his visit to the team in Mauritius fired up the nation’s weightlifters. “The visit of the DG fired up by athletes…it motivated them to perform very well…” It would be noted that Nigeria finished first in the championships with a total of 18 medals…13 gold, 4 silver and a bronze. The next Commonwealth Games will be held in Glasgow, Scotland from July 23rd to August 2nd, 2026. The games will feature a 10-sport program that includes weightlifting.
