Nigerians can bemoan all they like the
ridiculous situation in which candidates
are now effectively “elected” by the courts
rather than by the people.
If anyone finds that state of affairs so intolerable
as to warrant change, then the thing to do is to
ensure integrity in the voting process.
They must find vote buying and selling equally
abhorrent and end it.
They must also insist that the electoral reform
bill which has been passed and pending assent
becomes law.
Asides these, we must do more to educate our-
selves about the workings of the law and our civic
processes.
Hope is the beneficiary of the law and society as
today constituted, with all its flaws.
