The Director of Education for the Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos, Very Rev. Jerome Oduntan has assured of the readiness of the Schools under the Archdiocese to resume normal academic activities as soon as the state government gives approval. Speaking in an exclusive interview with the Catholic Herald, Msgr. Oduntan said the Archdiocese has also put in place operational guidelines to ensure that all the schools under its watch conform to very high health standards in order not to expose the students and teachers to the danger of contracting COVID-19.
“We are still waiting for the government to give us directives based on the experience of what is going on, and assure us that opening of schools will be secured and safe for learning. So, we as a Church are waiting for the government to give us the go ahead.” Msgr. Oduntan said though some guidelines have already been put in place, the Church is still waiting for the Ministry of Health, Education and the Federal Government to come out with further guidelines and directives. While affirming that the Archdiocese has been meeting up with its responsibilities to its workers, he also assured that teachers from Bethlehem College will also be absorbed into other Catholic Schools.
On the fate of the Bethlehem College, Abule-Ado, he has this to say, “By the Grace of God, the school will be rebuilt. We are negotiating with the Lagos State Government. They say that they will not want the school to be at the former place. We have applied to them to give us another plot of land within that axis because what we do in Lagos Archdiocese is to make sure education goes round in the Archdiocese and not just centralized in a particular part of the town. We need a school in the axis. They have made a promise that they will get us another land in the axis t
