Saturday, October 15, 2022 was a day filled with joy, as the entire parishioners of St. Peter Catholic Church, Ejigbo, Lagos, witnessed the solemnization of 21 couples in the sacrament of Holy Matrimony in the Church. The wedding Mass which began at 10:00am was presided over by Very Rev. Fr. Augustine Okhuelegbe, Parish Priest, St. Peter Catholic Church. Delivering the homily at the Mass, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Fashanu, the Associate Parish Priest, reassured the newly wedded couples of God’s divine blessing and protection. He added, “You have been living together, no doubt, for so long, but the sacramental grace that comes with marriage will be lacking if you do not come to solemnize your bond in the Church. So, we thank God for the gift of faith in Christ Jesus who has brought you here today. It is your faith in Christ that will open your souls to the power of this sacrament”.
He urged the couples to see the solemnization of their union as a new beginning in their lives and to show and have respect for each other. Before the final blessings, the parish priest congratulated the newly wedded couples, as he asked them to continue to seek the face of God in all that they do. He urged those who are yet to solemnize their marriage in the Church to approach the parish office and rectify their union, in order to be in one communion with Christ. The celebration continued after the Holy Mass at the parish civic centre, where all the couples, their guests and parishioners were entertained by the parish amid great Joy and happiness.
