The laity forms an integral part
of the church because they help
to diffuse the message and light
of Christ, says Archbishop Alfred Mar-
tins.
The Archbishop who was the Chief
Celebrant at the Mass ushering in the
Annual General Meeting of the Arch-
diocesan Laity Council held recently
at the Catholic Chuerch of Annumci-
ation, Festac Town, said every lay per-
son, by virtue of his or her baptism, is
called to spread the gospel and diffuse
the light of Christ at all times.
Said he, “You are designed to help ef-
fectively in reaching out to all the nook
and corners of the Archdiocese. Always
keep in mind and never forget that you
are designed by God to be diffusers of
the message and light of the Gospel. At
your baptism you were called and cho-
sen to be priests, prophets and kings
meant to offer the sacrifice of Christ
along with your priests; to bring God’s
message to people as prophets and to
exercise authority over people as serv-
ants in the mode of Jesus.”
While commending the chaplain and
executives of the laity council for a job
well done, enjoined them and all the
delegates present to emulate the early
Christians who lived peaceful togeth-
er, saying that by so doing, they would
be allowing the aroma of the message
and light of Christ to spread all over for
God’s glory.
Also present at the well attended
event were parish and deanery leaders
of the laity council across the Archdi-
ocese, including the Director of Social
Communications Rev Fr Anthony
Godonu.
