The Catholic Herald Weekly newspaper has been awarded the Evergreen Faith Promotion by the African Christian Movie and Music Awards (ACMA) in appreciation of its role as a tool for promoting evangelisation and propagating the kingdom of God. Speaking on the award, held recently at Alpha and Omega Hall, Lumen Christi Television House, Lekki, Lagos, Commander COC Nze, President, African Christian Movie and Music Awards, disclosed that this award was given to Catholic Herald, considering its impact in Christendom. According to him, “The award is Evergreen Faith Promotion Award, as we appreciate and encourage what the Catholic Herald, newspaper is doing. This is the oldest evangelical newspaper as far as this country is concerned.
We are doing this award, trying to recognise people, organisations that are promoting evangelisation.” Stating that the reward for hard work is more hard work, he urged the management and staff of the newspaper not to relent, and continue improving its dissemination of information, especially with the aid of digitalisation. He said: “I know Catholic Herald has gone digital, so I encourage the team to do more, so that the paper will reach more people, wherever. As long as you have your phone, you can read your Catholic Herald from anywhere. So, we encourage the team that way, so that more people will be evangelised, will be touched through this publication. He commended Very Rev. Fr. Anthony Godonu, Director of Social Communications, Archdiocese of Lagos for his good leadership, as he does his best to see to the continued success of the newspaper. “We appreciate what he has been doing, and want him to do more. When the head is alive to his duties, everybody else surely will be. He is doing very well. So, we encourage him not to relent, to continue what he’s doing.
We appreciate it.” On ACMA’s vision, he said; “In spite of constraints, we have made appreciable efforts in advancing our vision. The platform has representatives in different African countries. We have expanded the scope of the awards to include, rewarding men and women who are making great strides in the kingdom, and those also promoting the cause of humanity.”
