Lay faithful delegates from the eleven parishes that make up the Surulere Deanery, converged on Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church Aguda, Lagos recently to celebrate the third Surulere Deanery Day. The colourful event was preceded with a Holy Mass celebrated by Very Rev. Msgr. Anthony Erinle, Dean of Surulere Deanery and Parish Priest, Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, Aguda. In his opening remarks at the reception, Msgr. Erinle said, “we have come together to celebrate our oneness as Members of Christ’s faithful; the same oneness that we share with our priests and bishops.” Speaking further, he said, “As we come together to celebrate the Deanery Day, I wish to remind us that every celebration calls for reflection. The Church keeps reminding us of a call to holiness. As Christ’s faithful, coming together gradually after the peak of the pandemic and lock-down, how do we live the life of holiness. “As the Holy Father said, let us be charitable to one another. Charitable to those who are yet to see the need to come back to the Church, and worship together with the rest members of the community, by encouraging them. Charitable to those who financially or materially have not been able to make up for what they lost during the lockdown. “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts to which indeed you were called, in the one body and be thankful,” Msgr. Erinle stated. Highlight of the event was the presentation of Merit Awards to deserving personalities in the Deanery. The members of the Missionary Childhood Association were on hand to entertain the audience with cultural displays.
