Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, in today’s holy Gospel according to Luke 13: 22 – 30, we’re reminded of the Lord’s call to strive for salvation through the narrow door. Jesus’ words challenge us to examine our lives and prioritise our relationship with God. The question posed to Jesus about the number of those saved prompts us to consider our own path and the choices we make.
The image of the householder shutting the door serves as a powerful reminder that our time is limited, and the choices we make have eternal consequences. The Lord’s response emphasises the importance of living a life of faith, not just claiming familiarity with Him. Mere association or external actions aren’t enough; genuine faith requires a deep, personal relationship with God. The Gospel’s message also highlights the unexpected nature of God’s kingdom. People from all corners of the world will gather, while some who seem closest may be farthest from God’s heart.
This reversal challenges us to remain humble and open to God’s grace. As Christians, let us heed the call to strive for holiness, prioritise our relationship with God, and live out our faith with authenticity and love. May we be mindful of the narrow door and the importance of living a life that reflects our commitment to Christ. May the Lord guide and bless us as we journey towards eternal life. May our lives be an attestation to the transformative power of faith, and may we find our place at the table in the kingdom of God. Amen.
