The first world day for the Elderly, and Grandparents instituted by Pope Francis was celebrated in St. Pious Catholic Church, Ayobo in grand style on Sunday, July 25, with health care for the elderly, to check their blood pressure, sugar level, malaria test, among others. Rev Fr. Mgbemere Camillius Uzoma, SDV, Parish priest, St. Pious Catholic Church, Ayobo said that the health care of the elderly is pivotal because keeping them alive in good health, will help them to transmit the faith of our fathers, handed over to them from generations to generations to the Grand Children. He joined them in thanksgiving to God who had kept them alive to witness the day In his homily, Very Rev. Fr. Lawrence Ogundipe, SDV reminded the Grandparents of their role as models of faith, he told them that they are not just repositories of wisdom and knowledge, but serve as the veritable link between antiquity and the moment, thus helping us both to know our origin and to strike a balance. Their age makes life beautiful and helps us to see ourselves dimly in a mirror in the light of the yet to come. Also, present at the mass was Rev. Fr. Ejike Erasmus, SDV who led a song of praise to God in the celebration of over 30 elders, and many grandparents. After the mass, there was cutting of cake and presentations of gifts amidst music and joy. The peak of the event was the 70th birthday celebration of Mrs. Veronica Ayo at the same mass.
