A new set of executives have been
elected to steer the ship of the
Catholic Men Organisation
(CMO) of Saint Patrick Catholic Church,
Alaba International, Ojo, Lagos.
Mr. James Edeh, Parish Laity Council
Chairman of St. Patrick thanked the im-
mediate past executives led by Hon. Sun-
day Agu for their performance in moving
the church forward through the spirit of
solidarity.
“This day has been the day we have been
waiting for. The outgoing executive have
done their best especially on the mem-
bership of CMO. Today we can boast of
500 members unlike when we had 50
people attending the CMO meeting.
“In that area they have done excellently
well and I give kudos to them. I pray that
God will be with them as they continue in
God’s household,” Edeh said.
In his advice to the new executive, Edeh
said the CMO outgoing executive has set
a standard that the new executives have
to maintain. “They should ensure that all
men are part of CMO; it is one of the as-
signments given to them. CMO is one of
the organs of the Catholic Church like the
CWO, CYON and MCA.
“It is part of their responsibilities to
ensure that members are wedded in the
church. CMO takes it upon itself that
members get wedded, it is not enough
to have traditional wedding. CMO also
sponsors training of priests.
“CMO equips men with the right
knowledge to run their homes, because if
your marriage is not in good shape, you
might not be able to attain fulfilment.”
Agu, Immediate past Chairman of
CMO, Alaba, said it was not a walk in
the park leading the men for five years.
“I’m happy handing over the baton to
someone else after five years of being at
the helm of affairs. Leadership is not an
easy thing. I took over when CMO was
nothing and I had to work day and night
to see that CMO is what it is today.
“To bring men together is very diffi-
cult. For example 15 persons might have
been elected but you will discover that
only about three persons are working in
line with the organisation’s objectives.
“The most important is that the Chair-
man is focused and know the height he
wants to take the organisation to. There
might be people who take themselves to
be your friends but will have evil agenda.
If you are not careful they will get you
derailed,” Agu stated.
He however counseled the new execu-
tive to be transparent, be upright, refuse
to be rigid, come up with selfless ideas,
operate open door policy, don’t allow
anyone to try to manipulate and control
them.
John Madu, new Chairman of CMO,
Alaba, Ojo, who thanked the organisa-
tion for their support, said he believed
his emergence was divinely orchestrated
and that he never lobbied for the posi-
tion.
Sharing his plan to further the organi-
sation’s progress, he said the new admin-
istration will consolidate on the CMO’s
vision and projects, adding a two-storey
ultra modern hall would be erected.
“I cannot refuse the work of God be-
cause I do not want to suffer God’s
wrath. I see this as a call of service from
God.
“When you are working in God’s vine-
yard, He will work in yours. I pray God
to help me and other executives in carry-
ing out God’s work to further His king-
dom,” Madu stated.
