It was not just the handshake that put smiles on the faces of the beneficiaries but the content in the white envelopes given to them. That scenario played out on Saturday, May 1, 2021 universally recognized as Workers’ Day dedicated to the Patron Saint of workers, St. Joseph, Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Aside from celebrating the day with sumptuous meals and drinks, as it is the tradition, the rank and file of St. Cyprian Catholic Men Organisation, CMO, Oko-Oba, Agege, Lagos chose to deny self of this luxury and instead handed cash gifts to parishioners who may have lost their jobs or were considered indigent. One after the other, women and men stepped forward as their names were being read out by the newly elected chairman of the CMO, Engr. Dayo Olowokere to receive the cash gifts shortly after the 7 O’clock Mass with members of the organization in attendance. The Parish priest, Very Rev. Fr. Richard Fasuyi, represented by the Associate Priest, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Anyanwu thanked the CMO executives and members for the kind gesture and prayed that they remain focused in doing good to the glory of God. Asked why this year’s celebration took a different dimension with cash gifts to over 15 parishioners including some of its members, the chairman, Engr. Olowokere said the body decided to look inward this time round to cushion the pains some members of the Church were passing through owing to the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. He noted that in the past those who benefitted from the CMO package came from outside the Church environment
