Mothers have been urged to be mindful of things happening around them, especially as it concerns the fast rate of changes in the society, owing to technology, artificial intelligence and boom in social media usage, which if not properly handled can destroy homes. The charge was given by Rev. Fr. Matthias Iheonu, Parish Priest, St. Augustine Catholic Church, Ikorodu, Lagos while delivering the homily, during the Mothers’ Day celebration, held last Sunday at the Church. Fr. Iheonu said that at a time like this, it is important to bring to the consciousness of the mothers, a sensitive aspect of the society, which may not pose a threat to them but which if not properly managed can ruin the work they do. After the Mass, reception followed at the pavilion, where parishioners and awardees were called to the high table with the pastoral team. The CWO Parish President, Mrs. Felicity Nnamani, in her welcome address, said that it is not difficult to figure out the role of education in the protection of the rights of women. She added that education should start with the girl child because when a girl child is properly educated, she is better placed to know her rights.
Mrs. Clementina Nwankwo, Chairperson of the Planning Committee, expressed gratitude to God for a successful programme and heartfelt thank you, especially to fellow committee members and everyone who contributed by works, words of advice, time and financially to the success of the Mothers’ Day celebration. Activities lined up for this year’s celebration, included beauty pageant, mother and grandmother display, choreography and traditional dance, which was witnessed by large crowd.
