Old Students Association of
Nigeria Saturday 15th Feb-
ruary celebrated its 64th
Founders Day on the school
ground, Olomore, Abeokuta, Ogun
State capital.
As early as nine in the morning the
old students started arriving in droves
and by noon the grand finale mark-
ing the 64th weeklong activities of the
64th Anniversary had started gather-
ing momentum.
Led by the National President of
the Association, Engr. Christopher
Obayemi Adollo, immediately after
opening prayers by the Christian and
Muslim old students’ proceeded to
commission a newly renovated and
equipped block of four classrooms by
members of the 1973/78 set at a cost
of N1.1million (One Million and One
Hundred Thousand Naira) co-ordi-
nated by Mr. Olatunji Azeez.
In his welcome address, Engr. Adollo
appreciated the old students for their
huge turnout and reminded them for
the need to continue to support the as-
sociation wherever they might be not-
ing also that the school belonged to all
of them. He appealed to them to sup-
port the present executives and called
on them to bring those who were still
outside to join the association. He
praised members of the organizing
committee for packaging the event.
The president thanked the various
sets who contributed one thing or the
other towards upgrading the standard
of the school especially the Abeokuta
chapter led by Mr. Adebola Adesina
who maintained cordial relationship
with the school authority.
Welcoming the old student’s men
and women to the school, the prin-
cipal, Mrs. Aderonke Oluwatoyin
Olukunle congratulated the old stu-
dents both home and abroad and
expressed sincere gratitude to the
Executives, National and Ogun State
Chapters respectively.
Mrs. Olukunle lauded the various
contributions made by various sets
and individuals and of particular in-
terest to her was the renovation of the
science laboratory, provision of com-
puters and projects and equipping the
ICT Room. Dr. Victor Ukorie of Build
a School Initiative in Africa (BASIA)
was commended for facilitating the
construction of a Block of Four Class-
rooms with ultra modern ten space
toilets with borehole facilities.
The principal informed the old stu-
dents that the special students of the
school came first in the National com-
petition held in Abuja in 2019 and the
school came third in the 2019 Associa-
tion of Professional Women Engineers
of Nigeria (APWEN) in November
- She solicited more assistance
from the old students.
Eight old students received awards
in recognition of their personal com-
mitment to the development and ad-
vancement of their “Alma Mater”.
They were: Pa Olumuyiwa Idowu,
retired Media Practitioner, Sir. Am-
brose Okolo, KSJI, retired Assistant
Controller of the Customs, Alhaji
Musiliu Soetan, retired Deputy Di-
rector Central Bank of Nigeria, Chief
Mathew Olayiwole Amoje, Chairman
and Chief Executive Amo Group of
Companies.
Others were: Mr. Emmanuel Olaifa,
Mr. James Alaba Akintunde, Mr Sun-
day Wale Fashola and Dr. Christian
Yemi Akiwowo, all four from the Unit-
ed States of America and the immedi-
ate past National President of the As-
sociation, late Joseph Abayomi Afanu
who was given a posthumous award.
St. Peters College Abeokuta was es-
tablished on Valentine Day, Febru-
ary 14th, 1956 alongside three other
catholic secondary schools Our Lady
of Apostles Yaba, Lagos, St. Finbarrs
College, Akoka, Lagos and Fatima
College, Ikire now in Osun State by
the late Archbishop of Lagos, Most.
