- Says your clothes speak before you do
A value-based fashion influencer, Mrs. Emelda Ahunna Osuji, Founder, Women and Modesty Global Initiative, has described misconceptions surrounding modest dressing as misguided and detrimental to the values of modesty and virtue. She made this assertion in an exclusive interview with The Catholic Herald. According to Mrs. Osuji, many women have been led astray by the notion that revealing attire is a form of empowerment, with some even wearing such clothing to Church.

She said, “Sadly, many women have been misled by the devil into thinking that showing more skin is empowerment; even wearing revealing clothes to Church, thereby tempting others who have come to worship. When corrected, they become defensive, forgetting that modesty is a virtue. “Another false belief is that as long as your heart is pure, it doesn’t matter how you dress. But Scripture reminds us that our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. How we present ourselves outwardly often reflects what’s inside.”
Mrs. Osuji emphasised the importance of being mindful of one’s identity and the impact of fashion choices on personal dignity. She urged youths not to let peer pressure or trends dictate their dressing, instead advocating for a sense of self-awareness and responsibility. In her words, “Don’t let peer pressure or trends dictate how you dress. Fashion in vogue should not be your compass— your dignity should be. If your friends wear indecent clothes, be the one to stand out. Remember, you are addressed the way you dress. Your clothes speak before you do.”
