The Religious Education Department of the Archdiocese of Lagos has introduced a newsletter, “The Catechist”. This was made known recently by its Director, Rev Sr. Judith Madueke EHJ, during the Catechist Day celebration which held at Catholic Church of Transfiguration, Victoria Garden City, Lekki, Lagos. The quarterly faith based publication according to Sr. Judith, is aimed essentially at evangelization and catechesis within the Archdiocese. Speaking further, she said “this newsletter will serve as a continuation of the faith development of the Catechists and the lay faithful, as well as being an extension of the evangelization of the Church within the Archdiocese of Lagos” Giving his nod to the publication, the Archbishop of Lagos, who is also the Chief Catechist of the Archdiocese, His Grace, Most Rev. (Dr.) Alfred Adewale Martins, said that the two-fold mission of the Church-receiving and sharing the gift of faith with others is undoubtedly the objective of the publication.
He therefore prayed “may this project beginning like a mustard seed grow into a mighty oak tree that would nourish the faith of our people through Christ our Lord, Amen!” The newsletter was recently presented to His Grace in his office by Sr. Madueke and its Editor-in-Chief, Sir Peter Osamgbi. The Department of Religious Education Department is charged with the responsibility of promoting catechesis in the Archdiocese. Sir Osamgbi believes that the publication will amongst other things; bind catechists in the Archdiocese together, enhance teaching of catechesis, entertain catechumens and catechists, educate the laity, particularly in post Confirmation catechesis and also inform the Catholic community in Lagos Archdiocese about catechists and catechesis.
