The Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos on Sunday, announced the decision of the Holy Father, Pope Francis to confer Papal Honours on three Priests and ten lay faithful, in the Archdiocese. The three Priests, Rev. Msgr. Gabriel ‘Kunle Amolegbe, Rev. Msgr. Peter Babatunde Oke, and Rev. Msgr. Patrick ‘Yinka Obayomi, will be entitled Chaplain of the Holiness, while three male lay faithful, Mr. Gregory Ehimare Enahoro, Mr. Robert Soji Olagunju and Mr. Edward Soleye Hughes, will be named Knights of Saint Gregory the Great. The five to be designated Dame/ Knights of St. Sylvester the Pope, include Mr. Patrick Okwudili Igwilo, Mr. Anthony Ikemefuna Idigbe, Mr. Cyril Oluwatoyin Pinheiro, Mr. Patrick Onyema Amaechi and Mrs. Winifred Nwaukpo Akpani, while the duo of Mrs. Sena Donata Anthony and Mrs. Chinyelu Nkem Amangbo, will receive the Cross Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice. In the June 2021 Archdiocesan Special Circular, Most. Rev. (Dr.) Alfred Adewale Martins, Archbishop of the Metropolitan See of Lagos remarked, “On behalf of the Clergy, the Religious, and the Lay Faithful of the Archdiocese of Lagos, we congratulate the honourees, and we urge them not to rest on their oars.
We hope by the conferment of these honours, the honourees would bind themselves more closely to the Church, as they carry out their responsibilities with renewed vigour. It is our prayer that the good Lord will renew their strength as they aspire to dedicate themselves more intently to the service of the Church, in our Archdiocese.” The investiture ceremony is scheduled to hold at Holy Cross Cathedral, Lagos, on Tuesday, September 14, 2021, the Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross and the practical Feast Day of the Archdiocese.
