As we embark on the Jubilee Year 2025, themed “Pilgrims of Hope,” we are invited to reflect on the significance of hope in our lives. This theme challenges us to consider the role of hope in times of uncertainty and adversity. Does hope truly sustain us, or can it lead to disappointment? In this edition, BETTY AMUKPO explored the complexities of hope and its relevance to our lives, as we journey through this Jubilee Year. Some teens responded thus:

‘Hope does not disappoint’

Hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us. For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. According to Romans 5:5-8, this is the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. Romas 8:36. Ephisians 3:16, “But He will not fail us. He never disappoints when we ask in line with His Word.”

‘As Christians, we can trust that God’s hope will never disappoint us’

Hope doesn’t disappoint! Romans 5:5 says, “And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.” Hope in God brings joy and confidence. In Hebrews 6:19, we read, “We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.” This hope is rooted in God’s promises and faithfulness. As Christians, we can trust that God’s hope will never disappoint us. Psalm 119:114 reassures us, “You are my refuge and my shield; I have put my hope in your word.” By holding onto God’s word and promises, we can face challenges with courage and confidence. May we continue to hold onto hope, trusting in God’s goodness and love.

‘The Lord is good to those who hope in Him’

Hope never disappoints because it is founded on God’s unfailing love. “Hope does not disappoint us” (Romans 5:5), “The Lord is good to those who hope in Him” (Lamentations 3:25), and “Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength” (Isaiah 40:31). We are joyful pilgrims of hope.

‘Hope is a virtue that enables us to persevere, even when circumstances seem bleak’

We believe that hope is a powerful and enduring virtue that can sustain us through life’s challenges. While hope may not always guarantee a specific outcome, it can provide comfort, strength, and resilience in the face of uncertainty. We find hope in God’s promises, which are rooted in His love, faithfulness, and sovereignty. The Bible encourages us to hold onto hope, even in the midst of adversity, trusting that God is working all things together for our good. Many people have experienced the transformative power of hope in their lives, finding comfort, strength, and resilience in the face of challenges. The support of a community can provide a sense of hope and belonging, helping individuals navigate difficult times. Hope is a virtue that enables us to persevere, even when circumstances seem bleak. Disappointment is a natural part of life, and it can occur even when we have hope. However, hope can provide comfort and strength in the face of disappointment, helping us to navigate difficult emotions and find a way forward. Pilgrims of Hope, we believe that hope is a powerful and enduring virtue that can sustain us through life’s challenges.

‘Hope rooted in faith and God’s love doesn’t disappoint’

First, the Bible asserts that hope rooted in faith and God’s love, doesn’t disappoint. Romans 5:5 states that hope does not put us to shame because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us. Jesus teaches us just as He teaches the disciples to have faith in him. And hope doesn’t disappoint because it is founded on the love of God. Note: God has given hope that rises in the midst of disappointment.

‘True hope is not about circumstances, but on unwavering belief that God has a plan for us’

Hope is a powerful force in our lives, often seen as a guiding light during difficult times. In the Catholic faith, hope is one of the theological virtues, alongside faith and charity. It encourages believers to trust in God’s promises and to look forward to eternal life with Him. While hope can sometimes feel like it leads to disappointment, especially when expectations are not met, it is essential to understand that true hope is rooted in a relationship with God. This kind of hope does not rely on circumstances, but on the unwavering belief that God has a plan for each of us.

In moments of doubt or despair, turning to prayer, scripture, and the support of the community can help reinforce our hope. It reminds us that while we may face challenges, we are never alone, and there is always a reason to hope for a brighter future. A great Bible verse about hope is Romans 15:13, which says, “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” This verse emphasises how trusting in God can fill our lives with hope and peace, even in challenging times.
