Nigerian Catholic Social Communications Commission takes off

…Head of CESACC appointed President of Catholic Media Lecturers

The Nigerian Catholic Social Communications Commission (NCSCC) has proposed a uniform calendar for all communications bodies to build a formidable, reliable and efficient communications structure for the Catholic Church in Nigeria. This was disclosed by Very Rev. Fr. Michael Umoh, National Director of Social Communications at its inaugural meeting held on Monday, February 27, 2023. According to the resolution reached at the meeting, the new structure of the commission will be one that will be all inclusive, as well as synergise the efforts of all the different segments and among other things, lead to a uniform calendar by all communications bodies in the Catholic Church in Nigeria. Subsequent to this development, all elections were put on hold. NCSCC resolved to set up a committee to commence work on the nature of the new structure. The following were appointed to work with the National Director of Social Communications: Very Rev. Fr. Gerald Musa, Chairman (represents CESACC and lecturers). Members are: Sr. Kemi Akinleye (female religious), Rev. Fr. Anthony Akiwowo (Western Region), Rev. Fr. Martin Anusi (Eastern region), Rev. Fr. Moses Iorapuu (Northern region), SIGNIS to appoint a member to represent the Catholic media bodies.

Membership of NCSCC will comprise, the Bishop Chairman for Communications, Most Rev. David Ajang; the National Director of Social Communications, three NMA members, 10 PRCC members, three Lay media experts chosen by the National Director, National President of the Nigeria Catholic Media Bodies (CAMPAN, CAEAN, SIGNIS), Catholics in ICT (Cath-ICT), Catholic Media Lecturers (CML) and Catholic Media Proprietors (CMP). In the proposed structure, the head of CESACC, will always be the president of the Catholic Media Lecturers. Present at the meeting were Rev. Fr. Anthony Godonu, Provincial Coordinator, Social Communications, Lagos Ecclesiastical Province, Mr. Peter Dada, Secretary, CAMPAN Nigeria, Rev. Frs. Martin Anusi, Moses Iorapuu, Anthony Akiwowo, Leo Ehiemere among others.
