- Sonubi outlines vision and priorities
The Catholic Women Organisation Nigeria (CWON) has entered a new era with the installation of a former Commissioner for Women Affairs, Ogun State, Hon. (Mrs.) Elizabeth Sonubi as its 12th President. In an exclusive interview with The Catholic Herald, Hon. Sonubi outlined a clear vision and priorities for her tenure, building on the achievements of her predecessor.

At the forefront of her vision are empowerment and leadership development. She aims to equip Catholic women with the skills and confidence needed to take on leadership roles, fostering a culture of female empowerment within the organisation. To address the pressing issues of poverty and social injustice, Hon. Sonubi has made poverty alleviation and advocacy key priorities. The former commissioner plans to implement initiatives that promote economic empowerment among women, and advocate for their rights and interests.
Recognising the importance of family and faith, the freshly inaugurated President has also prioritised Family Well-being and Evangelisation. Hon. Sonubi is geared to support families and promote their well-being through various programmes and initiatives, while also fostering spiritual growth and promoting the values of the Catholic faith. She said, “I am honoured to serve as the 12th National President of CWON, with a vision to empower Catholic women and strengthen our role in the Church and society.
Over the next four years, we will focus on leadership development, poverty alleviation, advocacy, family well-being, and evangelisation. ”Through training, mentorship, partnerships, and spiritual growth initiatives, we will uplift women and promote positive change. I am committed to leading with transparency, integrity, and dedication, ensuring CWON remains a pillar of strength for families, communities, and Nigeria as a whole.”
