The little Nigerian boy whose video on social media saw him crying and negotiating with his mother who wanted to punish him has continued to attract diverse attention. The little boy in the viral video was seen begging her mother to calm down, as she made to punish him for an act of disobedience. While some saw the boy as a smart lad able to talk his way out of trouble in a comical yet bold manner, some have also viewed the mother’s action in the video as an act of child abuse. They reasoned that had the event occurred in a country like America, the mother may find herself in prison before knowing what hit her.

The idea of uploading the video on the social media for wide viewership was also frowned upon by some who saw the action as a cheap means of preying on the boy’s innocence to attract cheap attention. Meanwhile, a non governmental organisation at the forefront of the fight against domestic violence known as Combat Domestic Violence and Abuse Foundation, has moved to decorate the boy as the brand ambassador of the foundation. The Foundation, which has adopted ‘Calm Down’ as their slogan said they would love to make him an ambassador. “Every violence in the world could be avoided if we learnt to clam down,” they said The message in the trending video, Mummy calm down, has also gained the interest of the Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
