Msgr. Oke for burial July 27

The Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos has announced the burial arrangements of Msgr. Peter Oke, late Parish Priest, St. Stephen Catholic Church, Iwaya, Yaba, Lagos who died on Monday, July, 17, 2023. The announcement was made in a special circular, dated July 17th, 2023, signed by Most Rev. (Dr.) Alfred Adewale Martins, Catholic Archbishop of Lagos. The circular read in part: “It is with a heavy heart but with strong faith in Christ and hope in the resurrection of the body that we announce the death of our dear brother priest: Very Rev. Msgr. Peter Oke. “The Late Msgr. Peter Oke was a priest of the Archdiocese of Lagos, ordained on 18th September, 1983.

He served in several parishes in the Archdiocese, including St. Ferdinand Catholic Church, Boys Town, Ipaja, SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Shomolu, thereafter; he was transferred to St. Stephen Catholic Church, Iwaya where he served until his death.” On his Funeral arrangements, the circular read: “Wednesday, 26th July, 2023, body leaves Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja to St. Stephen Catholic Church, Iwaya, Yaba by 9am. Lying in State and Rosary prayers at St. Stephen Catholic Church, Iwaya, Yaba by 10am. Requiem Mass at St. Stephen Catholic Church, Iwaya, Yaba at 12noon. Divine Mercy Prayers at St. Stephen Catholic Church, Iwaya, Yaba by 3pm. Body leaves for St. Agnes Catholic Church, Maryland by 3.20pm.

Office of the Dead and Vigil Mass at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Maryland by 6pm and Mass of the Dead at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Maryland by 9pm. On Thursday, 27th July, 2023 the Funeral Mass will be held at the Holy Cross Cathedral, Lagos by 10am, followed by interment at Ikoyi cemetery. According to the circular, there will be lying-in-state preceding each Mass. The Archbishop called on priests to celebrate Masses and all Parishes in the Archdiocese to pray for the repose of the deceased soul. “

Let us all offer Masses for the repose of his soul and the consolation of all who mourn. Let us also remember to pray in particular, for the members of his family who mourn his passing and are in need of our prayers at this time. We remind all priests of their obligation to celebrate Masses for the repose of his soul. “May God grant him eternal rest and a place of happiness, light and peace among the saints”, he prayed.
