Veritas University, a Catholic-owned institution in Bwari-Abuja, Nigeria, has made a remarkable impact on the international academic stage, showcasing its excellence in education and innovation. The university has achieved two significant milestones, further solidifying its reputation as a powerhouse of academic distinction. Firstly, Veritas University emerged victorious in the inaugural Commonwealth Universities Debating Championship held in Kigali, Rwanda, demonstrating its exceptional debating skills. This triumph builds upon the university’s previous international achievements, including winning the African Telecommunications Union Digital Innovation Challenge in Nairobi, Kenya, and the Pan-African Universities Debate Championship, where they outperformed over 100 African universities. Additionally, Veritas University celebrated the success of one of its students, Izuafa Abdulrafiu, a 200-level Software Engineering student who won the Africa First AI-Powered Inter-University Quizathon.
Abdulrafiu excelled among over 150 universities and 7,000 participants from Nigeria, showcasing his intelligence, consistency, and tenacity to claim the top prize of 350,000 Naira. Rev. Fr. Professor Hyacinth Ichoku, the Vice Chancellor, expressed his pride in the university’s achievements, attributing them to the institution’s unwavering commitment to nurturing talent, fostering critical thinking skills, and providing platforms for students to excel both within and beyond the classroom.
