…As CCM Church of Assumption marks 60th anniversary, 25th solemn reception
Members of the Confraternity of Christian Mothers (CCM) have been urged to mentor the younger generation, especially the womenfolk, who are expected to draw from the wealth of experience of the mothers, in order to build and keep good and loving families. The advice was given by Very Rev. Fr. Francis Ike, the Parish Priest, while delivering the homily at Mass during the 60th anniversary and 25th solemn reception of CCM, Catholic Church of Assumption, Ikoyi, Lagos, held recently at the church.

Fr. Ike noted the importance of women, regarding their roles in moulding the society, adding that mothers hold a special stake in the continuation of life and the human race. According to him. “Your impact in the Church has only given credence to your nature as mothers.” The priest commended the mothers for responding to God’s call to be fruitful and multiply, a role he said that women have diligently played from inception through the growth of the human person for the continuation of the human race. He asked the mothers to support young families and women, urging them to be good mothers, building strong and fruitful Christian families to the glory of God, while shinning the light of Christ in the homes, offices, and everywhere they go.
He said good societies are products of good families, as he noted that mothers are critical to such attainment. Mother Shirley Bassey, President, CCM, Church of Assumption, highlighted the laudable projects embarked upon by the organisation since inception in the parish, including in the areas of education, infrastructure, humanity in catering for the less privileged within and outside the Catholic Church, public health, human capacity building in terms of youth empowerment, funding of the N70m Security Towers at Mater Ecclesia College, Epe, Lagos, donation of 32 seater bus to the school, annual scholarship up to University level to indigent children between 2000-2006, among others. According to her, the CCM is not relenting as it intends to carry out more projects.

For Mother Gladys Nwaukoni, Chairperson of the Planning Committee, she expressed gladness at being chosen to chair the planning committee for the event, as she said the celebration of the diamond anniversary of CCM in the parish is a testament to the abiding guidance of the Patroness, Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of Sorrows, the Queen of Peace. The event with the theme, “Celebrating 60 years of God’s grace”, also featured N25m fundraising for the building of the third security tower at Mater Ecclesia College, Epe, Lagos. Lifetime achievement awards were presented to Senator Mike Ajegbo, Dame Winifred Akpani, and Dr. Gregory Ero.
Distinguished Catholic Couples awards were conferred on Prince Kenneth Onyema and his wife, Ebisan, Joseph Ikedianya and wife, among others.
