Eucharistic Adoration, a revered Catholic devotion centred on the worship of Jesus Christ present in the Blessed Sacrament, continues to hold a special place in the spiritual life of the Missionary Childhood Association (MCA) in the Archdiocese of Lagos. The devotion invites believers, especially children missionaries, to spend quiet moments in prayer, reflection, and adoration before the consecrated Host — exposed in a special vessel known as a monstrance — as a sign of reverence to Christ. For MCA children, participation in Eucharistic Adoration is an important part of their annual spiritual programme.
It fosters prayerfulness, gratitude, and a deeper awareness of Christ’s sacrifice, helping them to grow in faith and missionary zeal. During Adoration, participants engage in silent prayer and contemplation, often receiving blessings from priests or deacons with the Blessed Sacrament. The atmosphere of quiet reflection enables children to experience peace, solace, and a closer communion with Christ. Beyond individual spiritual growth, the practice also strengthens community bonds, as MCA members come together to publicly profess their faith and share in collective worship. Through this sacred devotion, MCA children not only deepen their relationship with Jesus but also embody the spirit of missionary discipleship rooted in love and adoration of Christ.
… Brave rain for Eucharistic Adoration at St. Louis Catholic Church, Egbeda
Despite a heavy downpour, the Annual Eucharistic Adoration at St. Louis Catholic Church, Egbeda was a resounding success, drawing remarkable participation from Missionary Childhood Association (MCA) children and their parents. With great zeal and unwavering faith, the children defied the rain to worship and praise God in the Blessed Sacrament. Their enthusiasm and devotion, even at such a tender age, moved many parishioners and reflected their growing missionary spirit.
The highlight of the event was an inspiring talk delivered by Brother Kenechukwu Omede, who spoke on the year’s theme, “We Are Missionaries of Hope” (Romans 5:5). His talk inspired the children to remain steadfast in faith and to share hope wherever they go. The occasion was filled with joy and thanksgiving as the MCA community reaffirmed its commitment to serving God come rain or shine. With MCA children around the world united in faith and friendship, the spirit of missionary love continues to shine brightly.
