Miss Faheeza Oluwakemi Owuye , student of Maryland Comprehensive Secondary School (MCSS) has emerged the Overall Best Female candidate, in the 2023 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the nation. She won for herself a Commendation Award, as other students of the school scored straight ‘As’ in the examination. The National Award of Excellence was presented to Miss Owuye, recently, at Justice Legbo Kutigi International Conference Centre, Minna, Niger State; in company of Mr. Adeyeye, the School Examination Officer and her mother.

According to Rev. Sr. Agnes Adepoju, MCSS’ recent academic excellence, among other secondary schools, came in quick succession from the brilliant performances of previous sessions, which has added to its outstanding achievements. MCSS celebrated this exceptional national record made by Owuye and others, namely: Ikiebe Irabonosimhe Best, Osahon-Omorodion Osakpolo, Okolocha Mimasichukwu Sophia, Gomez Ayolaoluwa Francisco, Ogunleye Samuel Ademileye, Adelodun Augustina Afolawemi, Obioha John Chukwunedu and Chinedu – Chika Angel Mmesoma. Sr. Adepoju stressed that MCSS remains an institution known for her emphasis on varied teaching methods, tailored curricula to meet individual student needs and activities that foster knowledge acquisition.

She said, “A citadel of learning many are longing for, based on modern facilities together with other inclusive activities such as sporting events, International Excursions, involvement in State and National Competitions and to the glory of God with the approval of the ongoing construction of a befitting Boy’s hostel due for completion early this year. It’s home away from home! “The school continues to provide an enduring legacy of qualitative and affordable education in Nigeria. Her vision is to create a school community where learners develop a passion for excellence.”

The Administrator further disclosed that the school is set to mark her 55th Founder’s Day Anniversary on Friday, January 26. In her words, “We will maximise the opportunity of the school’s 55th Founder’s Day Anniversary, to celebrate Miss Faheeza Owuye for her meticulousness, integrity and strong commitment to her studies and school work. “In addition, we also celebrate all the students of the school, especially those who wrote their external examinations, both BECE and WASSCE last year.

She is a testament that the school’s management ardent desire to make conscientious scholars out of her students is not an unattainable feat. “Many thanks to God, the Proprietor, staff and especially the Administrator, Rev. Sr. Agnes Adepoju OLA for her tenacity in ensuring the school continues to keep to her philosophy of excellence and training of academically proficient, morally sound and psychologically balanced students, yearly, who are to contribute positively to the society.”
