Tuesday, January 21, 2025, was a day of joy and celebration at Maryland Comprehensive Secondary School (MCSS) as the institution marked its 56th Foundation Day. The event, which coincided with St. Agnes Feast Day, the Patron Saint of the School, was a momentous occasion that brought together stakeholders in the educational sector, parents, staff, and students. The celebration kicked off with a Eucharistic celebration led by Monsignor Philip Hoteyin, representing the Proprietor, Most Rev. (Dr.) Alfred Adewale Martins, Archbishop of the Metropolitan See of Lagos.

The event was also attended by other dignitaries, including Priests, Rev. Sr. Josephine Enenmo, OLA, Provincial Leader, Sisters of Our Lady of Apostles, Province of Nigeria, and members of the Provincial and Council. One of the highlights of the event was the prize-giving ceremony, where outstanding academic achievements were recognised and rewarded. Prizes and awards were presented to deserving staff, parents, and students in both junior and senior schools for their exceptional performance during the 2023/2024 academic session. Notably, three students received Merit Awards for their impressive performance in national competitions: Miss Owuye Faheezah Oluwakemi, BECE National Overall Best Female Student, 2023; Miss Udeme Danielle, Winner in the 2024 National History Competition, “Paint Your Leader” and Miss Onyechere Maryjane, First Runner-up in the National History Competition.

Ndebumadu Chiamaka Ariana, Nnaji Chiebuka David, and Nwagu Eberechukwu were also honoured with awards for their outstanding performance in the 2024 WAEC exams, achieving the best overall results. The Administrator, Rev. Sr. Agnes Adepoju OLA, received accolades for her exceptional leadership, which has been instrumental in driving MCSS to achieve outstanding success. Through her tireless commitment to the students, teachers, and staff, she has cultivated a nurturing and inclusive school environment that promotes growth and excellence. MCSS’s commitment to excellence has earned the institution numerous commendations. Recently, the school was represented in Abuja by Owuye Faheezah Oluwakemi, the awardee, and her parents, for producing the overall best female candidate nationally in the 2023 NECO Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

Additionally, MCSS received an invitation from the Office of Education Quality Assurance, Lagos State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, for the Award of Excellence as the Lagos State Best Approved Private Senior Secondary School for Year 2024, in recognition of the school’s outstanding commitment to excellence in teaching and significant contributions to quality education. The 56th Foundation Day celebration was a testament to MCSS’s commitment to excellence in education and its mission to nurture well-rounded individuals. The event served as a platform for the school community to come together, reflect on its achievements, and look forward to a brighter future. As MCSS continues to soar to greater heights, the 56th Foundation Day celebration will be remembered as a milestone event that showcased the school’s rich history, values, and traditions.
