The Catholic Archbishop of Lagos, Most Rev. (Dr.) Alfred Adewale Martins has urged Catholic educators to enhance the spiritual and educational development of students, as well as uphold standard of citadels of academic learning, for excellence, and moral upbringing of students. Archbishop Martins gave this charge during the dedication of Mater Ecclesiae Chapel and Grotto, and commissioning of new academic block at Mater Ecclesiae College, Epe, Lagos. The Archbishop commended the efforts and commitment of Rev. Fr. Pius Omofuma, Parish Priest of Catholic Church of the Assumption, Falomo, Lagos, the parishioners, as well as the administrator of the college, Rev. Fr. John Njorteh, for achieving the triple feat of commissioning of new classrooms, dedication of chapel and blessing of Marian Grotto. He said: “It is with joy that I write to congratulate you on this auspicious occasion of the triple celebration; the solemn dedication of the college’s chapel, the blessing of the Grotto of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the commissioning of a new classroom block.

This is a remarkable event in the life of the college, and so, we thank God for his blessings. “It is interesting to note that in its six years of existence, the college has grown in leaps and bounds. No doubt, the event of today is an obvious testimony of the benevolence of God. It is also as a result of the relentless efforts and hard work of the college’s administration and management. In this regard, we must sincerely commend the efforts of the parish priest of the Church of the Assumption, Falomo, the parishioners and benefactors, as well as the administrator of the college, Rev. Fr. John Njorteh for your relentless efforts and commitment to see to the actualization of these projects. We also recognize and appreciate the generous contributions of the benefactors, who have supported this project.” While reiterating on the enhancement of the spiritual and educational development of the students, Archbishop Martins urged the teachers, as well as students to utilize the structures with care, for the growth of the college “As we celebrate the events of today, we encourage you to utilize the structures with care, so as to serve the growth of the college. Let them help to enhance the spiritual and educational development of the students, so that the standard of the college would be upheld as a citadel of academic excellence and moral upbringing”, the Archbishop emphasised.
