Alarmed at the rate of unapproved and illegal development going on in Ikoyi and Banana Island, the Lagos State Government has asked property owners in the areas to come forth with the planning permits granted for their building construction and also evidence of stage certification. According to the state Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Idris Salako, the rate at which Developers in the state flout planning laws by going ahead to errect buildings without the permits was disturbing. He said this untoward act is inimical to the sustainable development of the environment and must be curtailed in the interest of all.

Last Tuesday, the Lagos State Government had sealed 11 buildings in Omole Phase 1, Ojodu as part of special enforcement operations against illegal structures. Dr. Idris Salako who led the enforcement operatiion stated that the properties were sealed due to Iack of Planning Permit, demolitiion permit and stage certificatiion. The Commissioner said that Government was determined not to allow willful violation of the Physical Planning laws of Lagos State. He enjoined Developers and property owners to desist from engaging quacks or chalartans in obtaining Planning Permits as the State Government was prepared to crack down heavily on fake permit peddlers. Also, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Urban Development, Hon. Ganiyu Adele Ayuba, urged all stakeholders in the building environment to follow due process by obtaining approved certification from the relevant agencies at every stage of construction
