The Knights and Ladies of the Order of St. Mulumba Nigeria, Lagos Metropolitan Council inaugurated 258 new members of their youth wing, the Youths of St. Mulumba (YSM) on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at St. Leo’s Catholic Church, Ikeja. Inaugurating the new YSM members, the KSM Deputy Supreme Knight, Sir. Emmanuel Onyejekwe implored them to strive for spiritual growth as committed Catholic young men and women and to remain steadfast in Catholic practices of praying the rosary, adoration/visitation to the Blessed Sacrament and care for the poor and needy in the society. The Lagos Metro Grand Knight Sir Don Ezeh informed the new YSM members that in addition to their spiritual formation, YSM also aims at character building, in line with the YSM motto of ‘Character and Service’. Other speakers on the occasion were Lady Juliet Damian-Osuigwe, Lagos Metro President, Rev. Fr. Augustine Nnaemeka, Chaplain KSM, Ikeja Sub-Council who officiated at Mass and blessed the YSM Regalia, and Sir Nosa Ehigiator, Deputy Metropolitan Grand Knight and Metro Coordinator of YSM. Lady Damian-Osuigwe advised the new YSM members to look up to their parents and emulate their good deeds. Sir Ehigiator stated that YSM will provide additional empowerment opportunities by way of vocational skills acquisition in ICT, professional video and photography, fashion design, cake/confectionary making etcetera, to fully groom them to face the challenges of living in a global society.

The common thread in all the messages to the new YSM members was that as well nurtured and focused youths, they are the future of the Catholic Church and society. The YSM members on their part, spontaneously formed a choir and beautifully rendered their anthem. Three of them Messrs. Anthony Ebosie, Jude Okolo and Miss Glory Ofuman presented recitals on St. Mulumba, the Patron Saint of KSM and histories of KSM and YSM respectively, coordinated by Miss Noela Esomonu. The Youths of St. Mulumba is open to young Catholic men and women between the ages of 14 and 25 years. It aims at spiritual and character formation of the youth and assisting them with leadership and vocational skills to become good Catholics and leaders in the Church and society. This is the third since the maiden inauguration in 2020, which brings the number of YSM members in the KSM Lagos Metropolitan Council to 750.
