Sajo tips Insurance, others to shine in NPFL as Edo Arsenal rule NNL Super 4
Chief Executive Officer of Nigeria national League (NNL) Barrister Sajo Mohammed has tipped the quartet of Insurance, El Kanemi, Doma and Bayelsa United to do well in the top flight next season. The quartet gained promotion from the NNL to the NPFL with Insurance emerging the champions Saturday night in Yenagoa after a Super 4 play off. Sajo while expressing satisfaction with the performance of the teams said he is confident they would do well in the elite division. “I want to congratulate Insurance on their victory and wish all the four teams well when they campaign in the NPFL. I am sure they will do well in the elite class,” Sajo said. The Adamawa born football administrator commended Bayelsa state government for playing host to the Super 4 in spite of the flood challenge faced by the state.
Bamfem Comprehensive College rules Proprietor’s Cup
Bamfem Comprehensive College has emerged winner of the maiden Private Schools Proprietor’s Cup in Lagos. The competition which was put together by a grassroots football body, Private Schools Sports Foundation ended last week. Bamfem defeated Ajoke High School to emerge victorious. Some of the schools that featured in the month long competition included Gracewell College, Ever Faithful God College and Osyglad College. Chairman of the Grassroots Football Foundation that organized the competition, Onyekaonwu Fredolen Sunday said the maiden edition was a huge success even as he added that he expects more schools to feature next year in the second edition.
Qatar 2022: USA, Wales draw a fair result – US Envoy
The Consul General of United States of America in Nigeria, William B Stevens has described the 1-1 draw played out by USA and Wales in the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup as a fair result. Stevens who spoke after the match at his Ikoyi residence where he hosted guests to a viewing party Monday night noted that it was a game in which both sides fought hard to win. “On the whole I think the 1-1 draw was a fair result. USA controlled the first half and got a goal and Wales came out stronger in the second half and got rewarded with a goal. So, it was a fair result.” The amiable envoy said one thing going for the US soccer team is the fact that they are made up of a generation of young players who would begin to jell when the World Cup comes to the US in 2026. “We have the youngest team in Qatar and I am looking forward to 2026 when we will be playing host but let’s see how far these young lads will go in Qatar,” he said. Stevens also wished the African teams in Qatar well, even as he rued the injury that has stopped Sadio Mane from being part of the Teranga Lions squad.
Qatar 2022: Six women referees make history
For the first time in the history of the World Cup, there would be women referees in action in Qatar. One of the history making women is from Africa…Salima Muksanga from Rwanda. One of the women refs is Kathryn Nesbitt who was an analytical chemist in her previous job. Yoshimi Yamashita of Japan, Stephanie Frappart of France and Salima Muksanga of Rwanda are the three main women referees for the tournament, while Nesbitt, Karen Diaz Medina of Mexico and Neuza Back of Brazil are the assistant referees. World soccer governing body, FIFA has made it clear that all six women referees must pass the same fitness tests as men referees whilst being held to the same performance standards as their male colleagues.
