“In the history of our entire
history as a sovereign nation
we never had it this bad in
terms of insecurity. Virtually every
part of our country is today affected
by security challenges, some more
than others. The nation is under
siege by insurgents, bandits, kidnap-
pers, cattle rustlers.“
This was the submission of the
Archbishop of Kaduna Ecclesiastical
province, Most Rev Mathew Man-
Oso Ndagoso at the recent burial of
Late Brother Michael Nnadi in Ka-
duna.
Addressing the mammoth crowd
that gathered to pay their last respect
for the slain seminarian, he said the
time had come for the government
to declare a state of emergency in the
security sector and channel resources
to securing this country.
He lamented the killing of the late
seminarian:
“To say the least, Michael’s tragic
murder left us all with more ques-
tions than answers. We are left with
why? Why? Why? Like the Jews of
old in their moments of woes, suffer-
ing and sorrow, we cry out to God:
“Why do you sleep 0 Lord? Awake,
do not cast us off forever! Why do
you hide your face? Why do you
forget our affliction and oppression?
For we sink down to the dust; our
bodies cling to the ground. Rise up,
come to our help. Redeem us for the
sake of your steadfast love” (Ps. 44:
22-26).”
He wondered how, in this 21st cen-
tury driven by high security tech-
nology that kidnappers use modern
means of communications that are
controlled by satellite to discuss ran-
som and collect same and get away
with it.
