An award to honour Mrs. Ma-
ria Onah for hard work and

uncommon humility to be

presented to her by St. Rita’s Catho-
lic Church, Obadeyi, Ojokoro in If-
ako-Ijaiye Local Council Area of Lagos

State fell short of few days for her to
be publicly celebrated when the cold
hands of death snatched her away from

her husband and the Ojokoro commu-
nity.

In a funeral mass and wake keep held

on Friday, 24th January, 2020 at St. Ri-
ta’s Catholic Church, Obadeyi and well

attended by parishioners, friends and
well-wishers of the Onah family, the
Parish priest, Rev. Fr. Philip Uchendu
described the late Mrs. Onah as not
only dutiful but committed to Church
activities without airs and that she took
it upon herself alone, when the Church
was still in its developmental stage, to

arrange and clean up the plastic chairs
on Saturdays evening set for Sunday
mass the following day. Fr. Uchendu
said of the decease, she was humble
while carrying out her assignments
adding that the community will miss
her services but thanked God she left

her foot prints on the sands of time
and that because of her good deeds she

will make heaven. The Parish priest re-
vealed that the late Mrs. Onah would be

celebrated with a posthumous award at
a later date and asked those present to
emulate her good virtues.
Others who spoke including some

members of the organization and soci-
eties she belonged paid glowing tribute

to a woman they said anyone would
ever loved to work with, and that she
is always happy to carry on the task of
several people combined, they recalled.

Mrs. Maria Onah died on Friday, Jan-
uary 10, 2020 at the age of 64 years after

a brief illness. Her remains have since
been laid to rest at Openeyi village,
Yahe, Yala Local Government Area of
Cross River State. She is survived by

her husband, Mr. Simon Onah, chil-
dren and grand children among other

relatives.
