It is always nice to feel great when you know you’ve done something that makes your parents, peers, school, Church and society smile with pride. If you want to make the society proud, there are a few things you have to work on, like trying to always be a respectful, humble, kind and considerate person and tackling new challenges and activities. You should also focus on doing your best and working hard. BETTY AMUKPO tasks some children on being sources of pride to their generation.

‘I live an exemplary humble life’

I am a pride to my generation by living an exemplary humble life for people to emulate and show them love. Exodus 20:5-6 Says, “You shall not bow down or worship them because I am a jealous God, rather show love to them that loves me and keep my commandments”.

‘Helping the needy, offering small sacrifices like sweeping the Church’

Yes, I am a pride to my generation. This can be seen in the following aspects of my life. By showing people the way to God. I do this by teaching people how to pray and behave in the Church especially during Mass; living an exemplary life of patience and showing compassion to people. By learning more of my faith, reading my Bible, encouraging people around me to do the same so that they will remain in the faith and follow God’s instruction, Proverbs 22:6. It says train up a child in the way he should grow and so he will not depart from it. I am a pride to my generation by helping the needy, offering small sacrifices like sweeping the Church. And by being obedient and helping my parents at home. (1st Samuel 15:22). More so, I’m a pride to my generation by living a transparent life worthy of emulation, genuinely apologetic for my mistake and taking corrections as well as giving the right judgment. Proverb 3:5-6, Jeremiah 17:7-8.

‘I reach out to my friends who are less privileged’

Yes, I am a pride to my generation by reaching out to my friends who are less privileged. I particularly take pains to make extra lunch daily for my classmate and myself when going to school, as a sign of my love for Jesus (Matthew 25:40). Jesus loves and cares for us so we have to do same to our fellow humans. (Luke 25-37)

‘Projecting the image of God; living a life that will win souls for God’s kingdom’

I am a pride to my generation through my daily actions by:

• Dedicating myself to the service of humanity by assisting in carrying out duties, at home, school, Church and anywhere and at anytime I am called upon;

• Living the teachings and grooming impacted on me by my parents, called to be a child of God. Act 13:36;

• Visiting and reaching out to those in need, the sick and the vulnerable by giving arms and being compassionate;

• Most importantly, projecting the image of God and living a life that will win souls for God’s kingdom. Matt 28: 19-20

‘I study diligently for my examinations and participate in religious activities as an active Altar Server’

I am a pride to my generation; I am sure that I can positively impact my generation by the way I live my life. Such as obedience to God, parents and everyone, Ephesians 6:1- 4 states “As for children, obey your parents in the Lord, because it is right.” The commandment ‘Honour your father and mother’ is the first one with a promise attached: ‘so that things will go well for you, and you will live for a long time in the land. I learn and teach my friends some coding skills, study diligently for my examinations and participate in religious activities as an active Altar Server which makes me happy. Most important, I pray with my family.

‘I’m selfless, kind, humble and honest in all circumstances’

Being a pride to one’s generation entails being a light to the generation, being selfless, kind, humble and honest in all circumstances. We have lots of examples of such people in the Bible, Miriam in Exodus 15:20, Deborah in Judges 4-5, Joseph in Genesis 37, King Solomon in 2 Chronicles 9:13-29. All these great men and women in the Bible had one thing in common, “All for the sake of Humanity”, not for themselves. They were voices to the voiceless, help to the helpless; they were there to show light in the dark for people to follow. In my generation, they are lots of vices and negativities to put one off being a light. But with the grace of God, I will continue to be a light in my generation no matter how little I can influence.

‘I have a positive mind and I think positively’

For me to be a pride to my generation, I have to:

• Choose my friends carefully. Friends that will join me to bring a positive change to my generation. Proverb 12:26 says the way of the wicked leads them astray. So I have to associate myself with friends with good Christian foundation.

• I don’t have to make friends with hot tempered person or easily angered person.

• Life’s road has potholes and obstacles but God builds a bridge over the potholes using the very obstacles that once blocked our way, if only we trust and obey Him. Let’s look at Joseph’s story in the Bible, his dream led him into trouble but his ability to understand them made Pharaoh to choose him to save the world. God can still use me to bring a positive change to my generation through my positive thinking, action and mind setting.
