As a child, I was taught to be honest, diligent and to respect my seniors. I was told that honesty is the best policy and that the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom. I was encouraged to thrive for all that is good, noble and godly. In my days, it was unheard of that one would condone any form of indiscipline, talk less of involving oneself with ignoble acts that would bring disrepute to one’s family and clan. Regrettably, as I grew up to become a man, I watched with wonder as the same set of people that once preached patriotism, honesty and dedication become the greatest offenders. Over night, they worked to turn around all that we once hold noble, hailing vices at the detriment of godliness. I weep for my country. I weep for the innocent souls caught in the web of confusion as they watch some few try to rewrite the book of life. They are trying to turn the holy book upside; to project evil as good and good as evil. They are trying hard to sell to us the idea that more is better while less is sinful. They are busy preaching materialism and hedonism as the expense of one’s soul. Are we going to allow them?
