Today is Mothers’ Day in the Catholic Church. A day dedicated to honouring mothers, maternal bonds and the influence of mothers in the society. As we celebrate motherhood, some children express the uniqueness of their mothers. BETTY AMUKPO reports.
‘She is the pillar of my life’
My mother is very special to me because she is the pillar of my life, my comfort, my strength. Her speech is full of wisdom; she is so vigilant over my activities, both in the house, Church and School. She provides all my needs without me asking for it. I call her Nne ma obi nwa, meaning Mother that knows her child’s heart. Exodus 20:12 states, “Honour your father and your mother so that your days will be long.”

‘Her name, Comfort, perfectly describes her personality and her role in my life’
My mother is the most special person in my life. She is caring and compassionate, always looking out for my best interests. Even when she has to discipline me, I know it’s because she loves me and wants me to be the best version of myself. She is very kind and loving, always willing to give me a hug or offer a word of encouragement. She is the most comforting presence in my life, like a warm hug on a cold day. Her name, Comfort, perfectly describes her personality and her role in my life. I couldn’t imagine my life without my mother’s love and support. She is the person I turn to when I need a shoulder to cry on, or a listening ear. She is my biggest cheerleader, always encouraging me to reach for my dreams. She is my rock, my foundation, and my source of comfort. I am so blessed to have a mother like her. Proverbs 31:25-27.

‘The kind of affection I feel for my mother cannot be overemphasised’
The kind of affection I feel for my mother cannot be overemphasised. That is why I honour and cherish her the most among humans, for I know how hard she is striving for me to be successful. Also written in the Book of Proverbs 31:31: “Honour her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.” Happy Mothers’ Day!

‘She carried us in her womb for nine months and now we are in the world’
My mother is the one who gave us life, who trained us right from birth, who cared for us when we were sick. She carried us in her womb for nine months, and now we are in the world. My mother cooks and prepares the food for us when we are hungry. She makes sure that we are clean not dirty. She teaches us how to cook, sweep, wash the dishes, and wash our clothes neatly. I love my mother because she did not only bring me to this world, she gave me life and she corrects my mistakes whenever I am wrong.

‘My mom is a blessed mother, strong lioness and full of wisdom’
My mom is a blessed mother. She is a strong lioness, full of wisdom. My mother comforts me. She is always there whenever I need her. She doesn’t seek reward or serve only when it’s convenient, or when she feels like. She understands that in serving her family, she is serving the Lord. She doesn’t compare me to others. She means the whole world to me, and I love her and will continue to love her always (Isaiah 49:15). Even when I offend her and she scolds me or punishes me at least, there is always an opened arm to welcome me back, she never forgets me (Isaiah 66:13).

‘My mother, my priceless jewel’
My mother, my priceless jewel. My mother’s love to me is priceless. My mother is my guardian angel who always direct me and my siblings on the right path. She is so supportive, prayerful and full of good morals. These good morals she is imparting on me and my siblings. She is beautiful, kind and lovely. My mother can help people in needs, even when she has little but she will still give out. My mom can cook, bake, wash clothes and never get tired. The day I saw my mother cried, I quietly went to my room and prayed to God to comfort her. Her tears melted my bones. Nneoma may God continue to bless and favour you for the good roles you are playing in your children’s lives. I love you mom. Happy Mothers’ Day

‘My mother, Rev. Sr. Therese, is special and amazing’
My mother, Rev. Sr. Therese, is special and amazing because she truly exemplifies a sacrificial spirit: There is nothing she would not do for those she loves. She continually considers the needs of others before thinking of herself, arranging her life to accommodate others. She is well-known for her random care packages, arranged with love. There is no doubt about the unconditional love she possesses for so many. On behalf of all the Orphanage children of St. Monica: Thanks, Mom, for being everything we have always needed you to be. We shall continue to honour and obey you as instructed by God (Ephesians 6:1-3). We love you. Happy Mothers’ Day to you.

Her unwavering support and dedication not only make her an incredible role model but also a comforting presence in our lives. ‘She is loving and caring to me’
My mother is special to me, because she was the person that gave birth to me. She always teaches me about the Bible and scolds me anytime I do something wrong, because she does not want me go astray. She is loving and caring to me, even in the Bible, Jesus loved His parents because they also saved him from King Herod, from killing him as they took Him to Egypt. Happy Mothers’ Day!
