Gunmen, on Tuesday, March 9, attacked St. Peter Catholic Church, Gidan Maidaji, an outstation of St. Joseph’s Parish, Layin Minista, Malumfashi Local Government in Katsina State, Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, where they shot the Church Chairman, Mr. Haruna Musa on the leg, beat up his son, Saminu Musa and kidnapped his other son. According to the Director of Communications, Sokoto Diocese, Rev. Fr. Chris Omotosho, Mr. Haruna Musa and his son, Saminu Musa are currently receiving medical attention at Malumfashi Local Government hospital. Fr. Omotosho, in a terse press release stated: “Good morning my Lord, Very Revd. and Revd. Frs. Last night, one of our out stations, Gidan Maidaji was attacked. The Church chairman Mr. Haruna Musa was shot on the leg, his son brutally beaten and the kidnappers went away with one of his sons. Mr. Musa and his son have been admitted in the hospital for medical attention. Kidnapping is on the increase in our area now.

Keep us in your prayers brothers.” The Director confirmed that the attack happened at about 11:30pm on Tuesday and that Mr. Haruna Musa is the Church Chairman of St Peter Catholic Church, Gidan Maidaji. “One of his sons was taken away by the gun men. No calls yet from them on their demands. The son who was beaten up and his father are on admission at the government hospital Malumfashi”. In a chat with CSN Media Officer, the Priest decried: “It is so sad and unfortunate that citizens in this area are left at the mercy of kidnappers and bandits in this part of Katsina State. We are sadly living in perpetual fear of the unknown. I think this is shameful of a government that has the constitutional responsibility of providing security for its citizenry. It has shown that the bandits and kidnappers have formed a parallel government against the Nigerian state. Our lives are in danger all the time.”
