I think the Lagos State Government
has erred and the recent ban on
‘Okada’ riders is indicative of an
advisory team that lacks process
and organization.
There must be organized ways of
managing such security breaches
caused by Okada riders in a metropo-
lis/business hub like Lagos.
Why not try the following…?
- Ensure that all ‘okada’ riders are
duly registered.
- Make sure that they have uniforms
that must be neatly worn, with their
names and official numbers bold-
ly written on them before they are
patronized.
- Insist that they have identity cards
that must be hung on their necks. - If we can verify the authenticity of
drugs by dialing codes, we should be
able to dial the numbers on the ‘Okada’
riders’ uniforms/identity cards to
verify their statuses before patronizing
them.
With proper orientation, we can
achieve the best out of this indispensa-
ble means of transportation in Lagos.
Without mincing words, rendering
over 4,000 men jobless in less than a
week, is for me, the height of adminis-
trative miscalculation.
How do you take a drastic decision
without putting palliative or alternative
measures in place?
How do you pull down a house in
which you’re living for renovation/
remedial works without first finding an
alternative place of shelter? This deci-
sion is hasty, ill-timed and insensitive.
