…As Ss. Mulumba and David celebrates mass wedding, Galilee Day
There was great merriment, excitement and joy among the priests, religious and lay faithful of Ss. Mulumba and David Catholic Church, Lawanson, Surulere, Lagos, Monday, April 10, 2023, when the parish celebrated its annual mass wedding for over 20 couples on Easter Monday being Galilee Day in grand style. The church was filled with couples, families and guests from the community, as well as those who came from far and near, gathered in joyful mood to witness the celebration of new beginnings and to partake in the festivities that echoed in and around the ever vibrant and radiant Ss. Mulumba and David community. Delivering the homily, Rev. Fr. Andrew Edogbo, the Parish Priest, highlighted the newness of life that has been generously granted to Christians with the resurrection of the Lord, as he instructed the newly wedded couples on the need to hold on to the Sacrament of Holy Eucharist as a way of constantly communing with Christ Jesus. Fr. Edogbo encouraged the newly wedded couples to be active Catholics by joining societies in the Church for easy identification and continuous availability to the entire Catholic community.

Recounting the story of the resurrection of Christ, Fr. Edogbo urged the worshippers not to allow themselves to be used as instruments of lies like the authorities at the time did with the soldiers that guarded Jesus’ tomb. The priest urged the people to proclaim Christ and Christianity as brought by the power of the resurrection, and to always call on the Lord Jesus Christ whenever they encounter difficulties. He commended the couples being joined in Holy Matrimony, as he assured them that the entire people are happy with them, as they wed and normalise their union to become members of the Church. Thanking God that the newly wedded couples have broken the barrier that held them from going to Christ, Fr. Edogbo said that there is plenty to gain in being attached to Jesus when one receives the body of Christ, adding that if one doesn’t receive the body, it means they don’t have Christ in them. According to him, “What you are doing today is primarily for your own good and salvation of your soul, and also for the good of the Church. “The Church has done everything for you to come to God. Marriage is not only for the woman but for the man too, to work for himself and for the salvation of his soul.”
He urged the couples to ensure that their lives should be that of witnessing to the resurrection of Christ, as he tasked them to be faithful to their spouses all the days of their lives. “As you make your vows to the Lord, you must keep it and at no time must you break the vow”, he admonished. Advising parents to pay attention to their children, Fr. Edogbo urged them to ensure that their wards are properly brought up, so that they (children) will not be lured into the vices of the world. “Plan your life properly and live it well, so your children will learn and emulate all the good that they see in the home and in turn apply all these good things wherever they find themselves for the betterment of the society”, he said. Hon. Fidelis Nnachi Inya, CMO Chairman and Mrs. Hope Amaechi, CWO President, advised the newly wedded to join societies in the Church, especially the CMO and CWO, so as to be part of the Church and for easy identification and continuous availability to the Catholic community.
