…As St. Cyprian, Oko-Oba marks Galilee Experience
The Holy Week which traditionally marked the passion and crucifixion on the cross of our Lord, Jesus Christ on Good Friday paled into insignificance with the shout of Alleluia on Easter Sunday, and of course, the lighting of the Paschal candle to announce the resurrection of Christ from the dead, reverberated throughout Christendom. As expected, the Catholic Church and other Christian denominations on Sunday through to Monday marked the event with soul-lifting activities and other forms of entertainment, including the Church’s traditional Galilee Experience where the faithful met the risen Lord to strengthen the believers’ faith through His resurrection. St. Cyprian Catholic Church, OkoOba, Agege, like other Parishes in the Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos celebrated the occasion on Easter Sunday with a large number of catechumen who have successfully scaled through the hurdles of catechesis receiving their first Holy Communion.
Worshippers were also asked by Very Rev. Fr. Richard Fasuyi, the Parish priest in a Mass concelebrated with priests, among them, the Associate Parish priest, Rev. Fr. Anthony Ntia to renew their Baptismal vows as the light their candles which he said represents the light of Christ that dispels the darkness of the human heart.
The birthday thanksgiving of Sir Dominic Osasienme Ayere, A Knight of the Church and prominent parishioner who clocked 80 years took place same day with his wife, children, grand-children, relatives, Priests, friends and well-wishers of the octogenarian dancing to the altar with gifts in thanksgiving to the Lord, and praying for good health of body and mind for the celebrator. All those born in the month of April were also called out for blessing, as is customary in the parish.
Monday witnessed the Galilee experience organized by the Laity Council Executives which kicked-off in the Church compound with the Mass where Fr. Fasuyi, the Parish priest encouraged members of the over 20 Basic Christian Communities that hosted the event not only to meet Jesus in Galilee but to feed the poor and needy who may find shelter in any of the different canopies of the BCCs, while he asked those yet to identify with the BCC nearest to them to do so. People turned out in their numbers to have fun.
The occasion saw the Priests, Rev. sisters, men and women; children and the youths dancing to traditional music to the admiration of guests and well-wishers who were at the event. Other side attraction was the march past by the BCCs all decked in their designer local fabrics and T-shirts, while the Parish priests took the salute, and gave the final blessing at the close of activities.
