The passing on of immediate past Governor of Oyo State is the latest in the growing number of prominent Nigerians that have lost their lives to COVID-19. The Commissioner for Health in Lagos State, Professor Akin Abayomi, revealed that Senator Ajimobi died on Thursday at a private facility in Lagos approved by the state government to offer COVID-19 treatment. He was aged 70. Several eminent Nigerians, mostly politicians have been mourning the demise of the late Senator who was tipped to take over as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC. In his tribute, Governor Babajide Sanwo-olu described the demise as unfortunate: “The news of the death of Senator Abiola Ajimobi fills me with grief. He died at a time his leadership and experience as an astute administrator is needed. He was a leader who served the people of Oyo State and Nigeria with passion and a total commitment to progressive ideals. Buhari said the death of Senator has left a big gap in the nation’s democratic space and prayed God to grant his soul eternal rest. Similarly, the National Working Committee of the APC described the death of its former national officer as irreplaceable.
