- Urges action on women empowerment
In a world where leadership is often associated with power and authority, the Noble President of the Ladies of St. Mulumba (LSM) Nigeria, Lady Ngozi Anthonia Obah, has shared valuable insights on her approach to leadership. According to Lady Obah, leaders should be role models, inspiring others through example. The Noble President in an exclusive chat on her leadership journey so far, with The Catholic Herald, noted that true leadership is not about personal gain or recognition, but about serving others and promoting the greater good.
When asked how her leadership style and approach had evolved since taking office, Lady Obah revealed that her core convictions on leadership have remained steadfast. “I have had the opportunity to demonstrate my conviction that leadership is more effective when it is based on good example, inclusiveness, transparency, and promotion of the common good,” she said. The Noble President further stressed that her commitment to leadership through example is reminiscent of transformational leadership theories, which emphasise the importance of inspiring and motivating others to achieve a shared vision. Lady Obah also advocated for women empowerment. She stressed that women’s empowerment is essential for creating a better, as well as a more just and equitable society.

According to her, when women are empowered, they are better equipped to take control of their lives, make informed decisions, and contribute meaningfully to their communities. The Noble President urged action for women’s empowerment as she highlighted LSM’s role in this endeavour, “Women are facing challenges and are poised to take up the challenge of building a better society, there is need to empower every woman for her to be independent, self-reliant and envisioned. LSM is contributing by reminding her membership on the need for them to rise and take adequate responsibility.”
Women are facing challenges and are poised to take up the challenge of building a better society, there is need to empower every woman for her to be independent, self-reliant and envisioned. LSM is contributing by reminding her membership on the need for them to rise and take adequate responsibility. So, how is LSM contributing to women’s empowerment and gender equality in Nigeria? The Noble President explained that LSM is reminding its membership of the need to rise and take adequate responsibility. “We are encouraging our members to be agents of change, to take ownership of their lives, and to be the driving force behind positive transformation in their communities,” she said.
LSM’s approach to women’s empowerment is holistic, focusing on spiritual growth, education, and economic empowerment. The organisation provides a platform for women to come together, share their experiences, and support one another. Through its various programmes and initiatives, LSM is helping to build the capacity of women, enabling them to become more confident, self-assured, and effective leaders in their communities. As the Noble President noted, “Empowering women is not just a moral imperative; it is also a necessary condition for building a more just and equitable society.” LSM’s commitment to women’s empowerment and gender equality is a testament to the organisation’s dedication to creating a better future for all Nigerians.
