As Lent comes to a close, BETTY AMUKPO asked some teens to share their thoughts on how they would continue their sacrifices and reflections beyond the traditional 40-day period. In their own words, these young writers reveal their understanding of faith, self-discipline, and compassion. Their brief essays offer a glimpse into the hearts of the next generation, showcasing their hopes, struggles, and aspirations. Let’s read their stories and reflections on how they plan to integrate the spirit of Lent into their daily lives.
‘Practicing kindness, praying every day, and limiting distractions’
As a follower of Easter, I will maintain my Lenten commitment by practicing kindness, praying every day, and limiting distractions such as excessive screen time. I will also support others with love and patience. Jesus taught, “If anyone wants to follow me, they must deny themselves, take up their cross each day, and follow me” (Luke 9:23). Embracing this way of life helps me stay connected to God.

‘Lenten sacrifice should be part of our lives’
Lenten sacrifice should be part of our lives. It’s goodness that God wants from us; giving up bad habits, living a moderate life, having a spiritual healthy life with being disciplined and always being good to everyone around us. These are some things we should be doing daily in order to receive God’s Mercy. Also, the Book of Psalm 23:6 states: “Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life.” That simply means the goodness we do will always follow us, and Lenten sacrifice is all about doing good.

‘I will keep praying, sharing, and obeying my parents, like during Lent’
I will keep praying, sharing, and obeying my parents, like during Lent. Jesus said, ‘Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and follow me’ (Luke 9:23). ‘Children, obey your parents in the Lord’ (Ephesians 6:1); ‘Pray without ceasing’ (1 Thessalonians 5:17);” Jesus said love one another as I have loved you (John 13:34); Be kind to one another (Ephesians 4:32); Let us not grow weary of doing good (Galatians 6:9). I will follow Jesus always.

‘Exercising self-discipline, enhancing my prayer routine’
I would maintain my Lenten commitment by exercising self-discipline (1 Corinthians 9:24-27), helping those in need (Matthew 20:26-28), and enhancing my prayer routine (Luke 18:1-8). My goal would be to embody biblical principles each day, meditate on the Scriptures (2 Timothy 3:16-17), and pursue spiritual development.

‘Keep finding joy in little things’
This Lenten, I gave up complaining, and it was hard! But it made me more grateful. Now, I want to keep finding joy in little things, like St. Paul said: “Give thanks in all circumstances” (1 Thessalonians 5:18). Easter reminds me that even small sacrifices can change my heart!

‘I will continue my Lenten sacrifice by incorporating daily habits like prayer’
I will continue my Lenten sacrifice by incorporating daily habits like prayer (Luke 18:1), fasting (Matthew 6:16-18), and charity (2 Corinthians 9:6-7). I’d also strive to cultivate the habit of self-control, humility, and kindness, reflecting on God’s love and mercy (Psalm 51:10-12).
