The truth sets one free. A lie is still a lie. You must never hide the truth or tell lies to protect anyone. It will only be a matter of time before the lies will be exposed and the truth will come out. BETTY AMUKPO interrogates some children on the end result of telling the truth. They respond:
‘Sometimes the truth is not okay for others’
In John 14:6, Jesus said “I am the way, the truth and life no one comes to the Father except through me. Sometimes when you tell the truth, it will not be okay for others; they will try to convince you, but you have to make sure you stand your ground.

‘Sometimes telling the truth may lead to imprisonment’
Telling the truth means being honest, but it doesn’t always end up with good outcomes. Sometimes, it may lead to imprisonment, punishment by teachers or other authorities etc. Because of these bad endings, many of us are scared to tell the truth nowadays. Exodus 20:16 states, “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbour”, while in Leviticus 19:11, it is written “You shall not lie to one another.” These passages are just strictly telling us we should tell the truth at all times no matter the situation.

‘Telling the truth gives you a sense of freedom and happiness’
Yes! Telling the truth does result in pleasant endings. I’m going to prove it briefly with this Bible verse taken from John 8:32, “If you continue in my word, then you are truly my disciples; and you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.” This simply means that knowing or telling the truth gives you a sense of freedom and happiness which leads to a pleasant ending.

‘Telling the truth brings about pleasant endings because the truth will always set you free’
Telling the truth is something that brings peace to the mind and calm over many situations and even in maintaining relationships. The Bible says in Exodus 20:16, “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbour”. So telling the truth brings about pleasant endings because the truth will always set you free and establish peace of mind. Proverbs 12:19, says “Truthful lips endure forever, but a lying tongue is but for a moment”.

‘Once you tell a lie, you have to tell more lies’
Does telling the truth result in pleasant endings? In my opinion, I think it’s not at all times, because there are times you tell the truth and you will be free, while at sometimes it doesn’t work out that way (Gal. 4:16). Telling the truth is better than hurting people with lies (John 8:32) Once we tell a lie, we will have to speak more lies by the way, truth has never been “pleasant” to hear at all times.

‘Since God made a commandment to tell the truth, it will surely result in pleasant endings’
As a Catholic child, I believe that telling the truth results in pleasant endings. Exodus 20:16 says: “Do not arouse anyone falsely. This means not telling a lie against someone. Since God in his infinite wisdom made this a commandment, it is clear that it will surely result in pleasant endings.

‘There’s no better feeling than telling the truth even when the consequences are not pleasant’
Telling the truth does not always result in pleasant endings. Our friend, Jesus Christ, told us that people will hate us for telling and standing by the truth (Matt. 10:22). There’s no better feeling than telling the truth even when the consequences are not pleasant. When you lie, your conscience won’t be at rest, and when you lie, always remember that the truth will always prevail and can never be defeated. Dear friends, don’t be scared of telling the truth because those who lie are children of Satan. (John 8:44) If you tell the truth, the truth will definitely set you free. (John 8:32).

‘Truth always wins in the end’
Speaking the truth can hurt, but don’t let that stop you. Truth always wins in the end because it can never be destroyed. Lies are built on a fragile structure that can always be undefined by an eventual recognition of the truth. Telling the truth can lead to a loss of friendship, status, access to right decision making or credibility, but that should not stop us for telling the truth. Being truthful means that we can grow, mature and learn from our mistakes. Ephesians 4:25 says, “No more lying, tell each other the truth because we are all members together in the body of Christ.” Also in Leviticus 19:11 says, “You shall not lie to one another.” Telling the truth leads to long life, peace of mind, promotes good health and leads to a happy ending. Lies have speed, but truth has stamina.

‘Telling the truth results in pleasant endings’
Does telling the truth result in pleasant endings? Yes, telling the truth results in pleasant endings, especially when it has to do with your loved ones and friends. As a child of God, we must always say the truth because only the truth can set us free. John 14:6: “Jesus said to him,’ I am the way, the truth and the life; no one comes to the father except through me.”

‘God admonishes those who seek a happy ending to tell the truth’
We should seek and tell the truth always because it’s part of what God admonishes those who seek a happy ending to do. Our God is the God of truth and pleasant endings are with Him. This thought can be linked with the words in the Book of Zechariah 8:16, which reads, “These are the things which you should do: speak the truth to one another; judge with truth and judgment for peace in your gates.”
