We all have our own pace and purpose in life as ordained by God. If one keeps comparing, he or she will lose that purpose and remain distraught, envying others. As Christians, we should be generous to people, especially the poor. Being generous is an important trait of a Christian. BETTY AMUKPO seeks the views of some children on begrudging someone’s generosity.
‘Bible says that whoever sows sparingly will reap sparingly; whoever sows generously will reap generously’
Begrudge means jealous or envy, while generosity means the quality of being kind and generous. I don’t begrudge people’s generosity because the word of God tells us not to envy people because of God’s blessings in their lives. The Bible also tells us that whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. So, give whatever you have from your heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion for God loves a cheerful giver. Proverbs 19:17 says, “Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord and He will reward them for what they have done.

‘God loves a cheerful giver’
No, I do not begrudge people’s generosity. According to 2 Corinthians 9:7, “Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”

‘To be envious of other people is to wish them ill which in turn can hinder one’s progress in life’
Do I envy or jealous other people’s generosity towards me? To be envious of other people is to wish them nothing, but ills and bad omen which in turn can hurt and hinder one’s progress in life. Matthew 20:15 says, “Am I not allowed to do what I choose with what belongs to me? Or do you begrudge my generosity?’ I personally do not begrudge other people, because we all have different talents and grace of God upon us all. We can never be same, but we can all be happy in God and one another.

‘I admire and appreciate those who are generous and kind to others’
No, I do not begrudge people’s generosity. On the contrary, I admire and appreciate those who are generous and kind to others. The Bible teaches us that generosity is a virtue that pleases God and blesses us. Here are some Bible verses that support this view:
• Proverbs 11:25: “A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.”
• 2 Corinthians 9:7: “Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”
• Luke 6:38: “Give and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

‘l don’t begrudge people’s generosity. l see them as collaborators and not competitors’
As far as God’s vineyard is concerned. Act of generosity is solely between you and your God. I do not begrudge or judge one’s generosity, Luke 6: 37-38. Take what belongs to you and go. I choose to give to this last worker as I give to you. Am I not allowed to do what I choose with what belongs to me? Or do you begrudge my generosity?” (Matthew 20:14-15).

‘Embracing and appreciating generosity fosters positive connections’
When you begrudge someone’s generosity, you harbour feelings of resentment or envy towards his or actions. This negativity can strain your relationships and impact your overall well-being. On the other hand, embracing and appreciating generosity fosters positive connections and contributes to a more positive mindset. It’s often beneficial to focus on gratitude rather than dwelling on negative emotions. Read Mathew 20:1-16, Isiah 55:6-9, Philippians 1:20- 24, 27.

‘Begrudging and hatred is of the devil; thanksgiving and appreciation is of God’
No! I don’t begrudge people’s generosity. If I begrudge people that are generous, I’m simply unhappy at God for blessing them. God blesses whomever He wishes to bless (Matthew 20:15) and when they become generous with such blessings, I am expected to rejoice and thank God. Would I be happy if people begrudge my generosity? Of course No! Why then should I begrudge people’s generosity? Begrudging and hatred is of the devil, thanksgiving and appreciation is of God… Choose wisely!
